Dear Community Members,
I hope this edition of Spirit News reaches you well rested after our almost 3 week school holiday break.
My family and I had a very relaxing first week, we spent plenty of time together and I almost forgot what day it was, always a good sign during holidays!
Enrolments 2024/2025
We are changing our structure for future enrolments at Holy Spirit. To come into line with surrounding schools, we will be enrolling 2 years prior to 4 Year Old Kindergarten, during this process we will also offer the option of entry into our 3 Year Old Program. We are currently accepting enrolments for 4 Year Old Kindergarten 2024 and 2025.
Places are limited for 2024 and 2025, so please let family and friends know.
School Maintenance Works
My second week of the holidays was primarily spent in and around the school getting started with some urgent maintenance works and some deferred projects.
As mentioned in previous communications I have been working with the CEWA capital team over the past term to highlight some roofing issues across the school, which had caused significant water ingress. CEWA have been very supportive, and we have confirmed immediate work. The current scope includes:
· Replacing 800 tiles.
· Fixing flattened valleys.
· Replacing damaged eave linings.
· Removing redundant evaporative air-conditioning systems.
The outcome of the immediate work will prevent further damage and extend the life of the roof until we can formulate a more comprehensive Capital Development Plan submission.
We also completed some deferred maintenance and a few projects around the school including:
· Trees pruned around the school entrance, which gives great light and more access to the school.
· The Administration office was painted, which has brightened up the space.
· The P&F Playground was installed, and our kids are absolutely loving this, I would like to thank all the P&F executive for their hard work with this project.
· Lines were painted in the undercover area for netball practice during rainy months and a few more 4 square courts were added, along with a disabled bay along our driveway.
I would like to thank all those people who have assisted with these works, including the CEWA capital team, Santelli Architects and Bianchini Builders. Huge thanks to our staff for being so flexible during this period.
The Shepherd
I attended the 8am Mass last Sunday at Holy Spirit, I am splitting my time during masses between Holy Spirit and my home parish, St Columba’s. It has been great attending the different masses throughout the weekend and meeting so many people connected to our wonderful community.
At Sunday’s Mass Father spoke about Jesus as the Good Shepherd who tends to his flock and who gave himself up for his flock. The analogy perfectly describes the relationship Jesus had with the world, that by Jesus giving his life for his flock, it strengthens us to continue to spread his message of love, forgiveness and selflessness. Father continued to explain that we are also shepherds; Priests are Shepherds to the Parish, Parents are Shepherds to their children and Teachers are Shepherds to their class. The Shepherd analogy made me reflect on the relationships in my life, I gain great pleasure from helping and assisting others, in being a shepherd and giving of myself to others. I believe it is therefore our mission to pass on this message or value to our flock, so we can grow the next generation of Shepherds.
The Ups and Downs!
How has your tipping been going this season? The Cats are on the comeback but the ladder is so tied up, I think this could be anyone’s year, maybe not the Eagles, but many teams are in the hunt! Much to my wife’s horror, I sit on top of the HS Footy Tipping ladder, I can feel a few biting at my heels, (Shelly Family, Patrick, Mr C, The Keffords I am looking at you) I feel I won't be there for long, but it is always a good view from the top.
Keep on doing what you are doing with your kids, they are amazing and such a pleasure to have at our school!

SPIRIT NETBALL CLUB
Year 3 play at 4.10pm Friday, Year 4 at 6pm Friday and Year 5 on Saturday at 8am.

Rain Jackets and Bathers have arrived. These can be picked up from the Uniform Shop on Friday or the office after school on Friday.
We understand that not everyone can make it to the shop during opening hours, however
WE KINDLY ASK THAT YOU DO NOT ENTER THE UNIFORM SHOP WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Even if the door is unlocked, please speak with the front office before entering the store.
