News for January 4, 2024
Happy new year and welcome to 2024 from RAHS! We've eased into the year with an asynchronous day and three days of school this week. We have reestablished expectations in the classroom and would like to remind families that students are expected to be at school and on time every day - please drop them off prior to 8:10 (prior to 9:00 on Wednesdays). Oftentimes there is a tradition to set goals in a new year - talk with your students about what they'd like to improve on at RAHS (grades, activity involvement, attendance, etc.). Enjoy the pictures below and know that we've jumped back into learning and are happy your child is at RAHS!
- January 5 - Student of the Trimester celebration
- January 15 - No School, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- January 16 - Last day to submit register for 24-25 school year (see additional info below)
- January 23 - Trimester II Parent Teacher Conferences (in person option)
- January 26 - Senior Panoramic Photo

Interested in being in an AVID class next year?
AVID is accepting applications and conducting interviews to fill open spots in our classes for 3rd trimester and the 2024-2025 school year. We currently have a few openings in our 10th grade classes, but more spots may become available between trimesters or over the summer at other grade levels. Students do not need to reapply if they are on the waiting list and have previously submitted an application.
- Students can apply for AVID using our new digital application! Once your application is submitted, you will receive a pass to have an interview with an AVID staff member. Check your Schoology messages for more information after you submit your application.
- Students and families can learn more about AVID on the district website.
Please send any questions to the RAHS AVID Coordinator, Anne Barnes, at anne.barnes@isd623.org
Senior Ads
We have a fantastic opportunity for you to celebrate your senior or honor your graduating student with a timeless keepsake—a personalized senior or baby ad in this year's yearbook.
Our yearbook team is working tirelessly to ensure that the yearbook is not just a collection of photos but a reflection of the unique experiences and memories that have shaped this school year. One of the most cherished sections is the senior and baby ads (also known as recognition ads), where families can leave a lasting message for their graduating student.
Why consider a Senior or Baby Ad?
Personal Touch: Your heartfelt message and carefully selected photos will add a personal touch to your student's yearbook, making it a treasured keepsake for years to come.
Celebrate Achievements: Highlight your student's achievements, milestones, and growth throughout their academic journey.
Capture Memories: The yearbook is a time capsule, and a personalized ad allows you to capture and preserve precious memories.
To create your ad, simply visit Jostens Yearbook Ads or https://www.jostens.com/yearbooks/students-and-parents/yearbook-ads. The deadline for submissions is January 20, so don't miss the chance to be a part of this special tradition.
If you have any questions or need assistance with the ad creation process, the Jostens website provides helpful resources. Additionally, feel free to reach out to our yearbook team at christina.owen@isd623.org for any further assistance.
Thank you for your support in making this year's yearbook a memorable one. We look forward to seeing your personalized ad grace the pages of the yearbook.

The Concordia College Promise:
Concordia College released a new program comparable to the North Star Promise. The Concordia Promise is a program that offers Free Tuition to students whose families make less than $90,000 a year. This is an awesome new program that aims to make college more affordable for students on the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum. Their application is free, with no essay requirement, and no ACT score requirement. So, it is incredibly easy to apply.
Reach out to our Concordia Rep with any questions at wamunds1@cord.edu

Attendance:
Please report all absences and attendance information to the RAHS Attendance Line (rahs-attendance@isd623.org or 651-604-1465). Regular and on-time attendance is crucial for children's learning!
Students Leaving School During the School Day
Please remember that if your child is not feeling well during the school day, they must go through the Health Office. The Health Office needs to contact you for permission and write your child a pass to leave. If your child needs to leave for a planned appointment, the attendance office will give them a pass. Leaving the building without a pass from the health office or the attendance office will result in an unexcused absence.
Medications:
If there are medications that need to be given at school, please email the nurse for more information, or stop into the Health Office. The Health Office staff needs to confirm health conditions, paperwork, medications, and expiration dates.
COVID Updates
COVID Isolation Guidelines are the same as last school year. If your student tests positive for COVID they must stay home for 5 days (from symptom onset or date of positive test, whichever is first). Please notify the Health Office if your student tests positive. Health Office staff will talk through the dates and confirm the timeline. Students can return to school on day 6 and will be required to wear a mask at school on days 6-10.
There is no quarantine of close contacts; please send your student to school each day that they feel well.
We still have COVID tests. Contact the Health Office if you would like one sent home with your student.
