🍪 National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day
Today is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day 🍪 Believe it or not, the chocolate chip cookie was actually a mistake 🤔 It all starts with a lady named Ruth Wakefield.
She and her husband owned a restaurant in Massachusetts, USA, called The Toll House Inn. Ruth's recipes, especially her cookies, were loved by everyone who visited 😍
Legend has it that one day, when Ruth was mixing up her famous pecan drop cookies, she wanted to add some melted chocolate. She realized that it was almost time for her guests to arrive 😟 so she grabbed a Nestle chocolate bar 🍫, chopped it up and added bits to the dough.
Ruth wasn't sure what to expect when the cookies came out of the oven. To her delight, the chocolate chip pieces kept their shape and were perfectly melty and delicious 🎉
These chocolate chip cookies were an instant success and Ruth even published her recipe in the newspaper 📰 So many people started making chocolate chip cookies at home 👨🍳 that the chocolate company, Nestle, noticed their sales going up 📈
Nestle asked Ruth if they could print her recipe on their chocolate bar wrappers. Ruth said yes . . . but only if she received FREE CHOCOLATE BARS FOR LIFE! It was a deal 🍪
