The BIVONA Child Advocacy Center will be using the MBF Teen Safety Matters® program from the Monique Burr Foundation for Children. The goal of the program is to help keep your child safe. The program addresses emotional, physical, and digital safety, and teaches students and adults how to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to the four types of child abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, neglect), exploitation/trafficking, sexual assault, relationship abuse, bullying, cyberbullying, and digital dangers. The program is based on the latest research and has been reviewed and endorsed by national experts. The curriculum focuses on digital safety and physical/emotional safety. Age-appropriate lessons are taught with engaging, interactive PowerPoints that include lecture, group discussion, skills-practice activities, videos, and games. Two 55-minute lessons (or four shorter lessons) will be presented to students in grades 9 – 12 together, allowing for use in blended grade classrooms by a trained facilitator. Click here for the district’s letter introducing this new curriculum.
