National Poetry Month
As part of National Poetry Month, the students listened and responded to poems from the Poetry Anthology. Some students read the poems to their class. The students focused on rhyme and rhythm in this lesson. Later in the month, the students learned about Acrostic, Rebus, and Shape poems. They had an opportunity to create one of these types of poems during their library time.
Book Fair
The book fair arrived for the second time this school year! We held the second book fair at the beginning of April. Students and staff were excited to see it arrive. Everyone came by to see what new and exciting items were available. The Book Fair did get shut down due to High School Testing, but the students were still able to come in before and after school.

Candle Light Vigil for Child Abuse and Neglect
Every year, a candlelight vigil for abused and neglected children is observed in Raymondville Texas. The Lasara Choir has been invited to this vigil for many years, and this year was no different. Mrs. Jacqueline Maldonado did a great job teaching these students, and they did a great job in their performance. These students are asked to attend this event. It is not mandatory, and yet they never fail to show up. Way to go Little Lions!
UIL Regional Events
The UIL Regional Meet took place in Brenham Texas this year. The students had to leave on April 21st due to the distance. The contests started on April 22nd and our students did great! We had several students advance to the State competitions or were alternates. Our Current Issues Team came in 1st with Freshman Matthew Tamez taking 1st place. Other members of the team were Isaac Garza, Marcus Barco, and Elliana Chapa. The Literary Criticism Team also came in 1st with Victoria Velazquez leading the way in 1st place, Jazmine Flores, in 4th place, Elliana Chapa in 3rd place, and Selissa Gonzales in 6th place. We also had Ceinwynn Oerther qualify for state competition in Feature Writing by coming in 2nd. Everyone had a lot of fun but continued to work hard to get ready for the state competition. Way to go Lions!
National School LIbrarian Day
This month we celebrated National School Librarian Day. I received a lovely basket of goodies. I really appreciate this gift and the kind words. It's true what they say, "If you love your job, you won't work a day in your life." While I do a lot, I don't feel like I have "worked" in the last 15 years. I Love Being a Lion!
