Falcon Express Update to Families
November 5, 2023
Message from Principal Higgs
Dear Falcon Families,
I hope this message finds you doing well. We recently held our Magnet night to showcase Millennium's many offerings. Thank you for attending and encouraging others to consider becoming a Falcon.
This past week, we launched an important initiative with the Peace and Justice Institute. Millennium Middle School is participating in the Seminole Resilient Community Project. The Seminole Resilient Community Project aims to:
• Build strong relationships among employees and with students using a resilience perspective, supporting self-management in adults and children.
• Promote a positive school climate of empathy, honesty, and emotional intelligence, where difficult situations and conflicts can be addressed skillfully with compassionate care and restorative practices.
• Provide wellness programming for staff
• Include parental education and involvement
• Promote the Five Protective Factors within the school culture.
• Develop communication campaigns to build awareness about the impacts of adversity on mental health, reduce stigma, and promote healing interventions.
We have begun this journey, and it will include staff, parents, and students. We are excited to announce a FREE 2-hour workshop, "How to Talk to Your Child," held on November 7th, 2023, from 5:30-7:30 PM. The workshop will provide information about practical tools for engaging in difficult conversations, empathetic listening, perspective-taking, and relationship-building. Light refreshments will be provided starting at 5:00 PM, and there will be a drawing to win a $50.00 gift card. We will also offer a staff-supervised youth activity for school-aged, potty-trained children during the workshop hours.
If you want to attend this workshop, please complete the following registration form. We look forward to seeing you at this event! If you have any questions about this workshop, please email Dr. Roupe at addie_roupe@scps.k12.fl.us. You can also find more information about the workshop and register at https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSfep5pjwPGFOZ.../viewform.
Lastly, we invite you to consider volunteering on campus by completing a Dividends application. We always need volunteers and couldn't do it without your support. You can complete the application using this link https://www.scps.k12.fl.us/district/departments/community-involvement/dividends_application.
Thank you for your continued support, and we hope you have a PRIDE-filled day!
Sincerely,
Principal Higgs
TEACH-IN - November 14, 2023
Teach-In is a perfect opportunity for parents, business leaders, and community members to let students know we care about them. Teach-In highlights the importance of bringing together teachers, school staff, parents, students, and communities in a unified effort to build great public schools.
Help shape and build the future. Step into a classroom to share great information with our students and teachers. Talk about your job or career. Have you traveled? Do you have a cool hobby? Open a door to a new life experience for our students.
Teach-In for the 2023-2024 school year will occur on November 14, 2023! Please CLICK on the image below.
Campus Procedure Update
Please remember that students should not be dropped off at campus before 9:05 AM, as there is no supervision before this time. Dropping students to campus without supervision is negligent and should not occur. Please help us maintain the safety of your child by refraining from leaving him or her unsupervised. If you arrive before this time, please remain with your student until 9:05 AM, when there is campus supervision.
The students have done an excellent job adjusting and learning the new management system, Minga. This campus-wide tool tracks student actions such as tardies and hall passes and provides digital Falcon bucks for positive incentives. If your student is tardy to class, you may have received a notification from Minga. If this is frequent, please speak with your child about arriving to class on time. If there are additional questions, please join us at our next SAC meeting on November 14, 2023, at 5:00 PM in the Millennium Media Center.
Partner With Us - We are Millennium
Additionally, we are looking for members to join the School Advisory Council (SAC). This group represents the school, the community, and those closest to the students. SAC is crucial in preparing and evaluating the school improvement plan (SIP). We would love for you to join us as a SAC member, and our next meeting will be held on November 14, 2023, at 5:00 PM in the media center.

Athletic Update
Parental Authorization Form - Cross Country🏃♂️🏃♀️
SCPS has developed a plan to adhere to the requirements set forth by the Florida Department of Education’s Board Rule 6A-10.089, Section (5) which requires parent or guardian notification and permission forms for all school-sponsored events, activities, and supplemental programs. Over the next few days, weeks, and months, teachers, sponsors, and administrators will be sending notification and permission forms for any school-sponsored events, activities, or supplemental programs your child plans to attend. Please keep your eye out for these forms so that your child is able to participate.
📆 Upcoming Events
Snack Attack - Fall Art Show
You are invited to the annual Fall Art Show, F.A.L.con: ArtMart, a food-themed exhibition by the Millennium Middle School Art Department. Join us on November 8th from 6-8 pm at Building 1 to enjoy art, snacks, and music with a food-related theme. We look forward to seeing you there!
No Cost Eye Exams
We want our students to excel like Falcons and have sharp eyesight like them too! The Florida Heiken Children's Vision Program offers comprehensive eye exams and glasses, free of charge, for eligible students. This program is available at no cost to you. If you believe that your child could benefit from this service, please complete the application before Thanksgiving (11/23/23). Ms. Neal, the school social worker, will be happy to help you fill out the application if necessary. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me her nealcz@myscps.us or call me at 407-320-2286.
COMMUNITY BUSINESS PARTNER OF THE WEEK
We would like to recognize Mr. & Mrs. Crab Sanford, restaurant owners, for their continued support of Millennium Middle School as a Community Sponsor. We appreciate their contributions to our school and community!
