Principal's Message 11.19.21
Dear Lake Grove Families,
Yesterday and today I got to spend time in our fifth grade classrooms reading and discussing the book, The Reflection in Me by Marc Colagiovanni. In this story the main character's reflection reminds them that are 'perfectly perfect'. We talked about how we can be positivity mirrors for one another as we continue to learn to be together again safely as a community. I linked the story below if you'd like to hear it and talk as a family.
Your children are 'perfectly perfect' exactly where they are right now in their learning journey. Each and every one of them is a joy to work with. They remind me, and whole our staff, of our purpose. Thank you for sharing these amazing young people with us.
Enjoy your time with them next week!
Be well,
Principal Jennie Knapp
Holiday Resources
As we enter the Winter Holiday season, Lake Oswego School District wants to connect with families who could benefit from additional resource support. The district has a wonderful partnership with Elks Club to offer Holiday resources for any LOSD families who may benefit.
The Elks Club will be delivering the food and gifts Saturday, December 18th from 9am-12pm. and require you to be present at time of delivery or make arrangements for someone to be present for you at delivery. Picking up the resources may be available.
The holiday boxes will contain: A non-perishable food box (flour, sugar, canned food, etc.), fresh produce (chicken, onions, potatoes, fruit, etc.), holiday gifts/toys for students grades K-12 (students age 13 and older will receive a gift card), and new clothing items.
If your family would benefit from this resource, please contact Wendy Post,Lake Grove Counselor postw@loswego.k12.or.us (503) 534-2357 as soon as possible as I must have all referrals submitted no later than December 2nd.
Vision Screening for Grades K, 1, 3, & 5
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Lake Oswego School District will be conducting the annual vision screening for students in your child’s school:
Lake Grove Elementary School on Thursday, Dec. 02 at 8:45am.
This is for grades K, 1, 3, and 5 only. If you have a 2nd or 4th grader with a specific vision concern for their student and would like them screened, please notify your child's teacher.
Vision screening will be done by the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. The OLSHF uses a Spot screener to do the vision screening. It looks like a large camera that takes a picture of your child’s eyes.
More information about Spot:
You have the right to decline vision screening for your child. Please let your child’s teacher know if you would like your child to OPT-OUT of vision screening.
If your child is referred to a vision specialist, you will receive screening results within two weeks of the screening day.
If for some reason the Spot screener could not take an adequate picture of your child’s eyes; a vision screening will be done using a distance eye chart.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Lake Grove office at 503-534-2357.

SEL Theme for November: Gratitude
This month through our Social Emotional Learning (SEL), we will be exploring the character trait of GRATITUDE. Gratitude has been shown to be one of the best ways to reduce anxiety, increase happiness, & improve relationships. The practice of gratitude is a tool that both grounds us and also inspires hope, peace, and joy. For when we are grateful, we are stronger to “be the good” to our world.
The definition students will be learning this month is Gratitude: choosing to notice and appreciate things in our life, things in others, and things in the world.
We want to make sure we share with students that Gratitude is first a choice that we get to make over and over again on where we put our focus. Second, it does not always have to be about something positive. We can feel grateful even for tough or challenging things in our life. There is plenty of research that shows a strong connection between Gratitude and reduced anxiety, increased happiness, and better relationships. Over the course of the month, we will talk about amazing people who demonstrate Gratitude in various ways. We will talk about what we are grateful for in ourselves and in others. Lastly, we will even find Gratitude in some things we would not expect to be thankful for.
We believe involving families in our Social Emotional Learning is important. The letters linked below include activities, conversation starters, reading lists, and more for you to explore GRATITUDE further as a family:
K-2 Gratitude Family Letter (English) 3-5 Gratitude Family Letter (English)
K-2 Gratitud para Familias (En Español) 3-5 Gratitud para Familias (En Español)
Thank you for teaming with us to empower our students socially and emotionally. Please reach out if you or your student would like more support.
With sincere gratitude, Wendy Post, Lake Grove Counselor
