News from Glacier Peak
March 1, 2023
Remarks from Mr. Griffin
Happy March! Spring is quickly approaching, and I think most of us are ready for some warmer weather and to be done with snow. We all know though, that March often brings some of our biggest snow storms! Speaking of snow, I want to extend a HUGE thank you to Grant Dalton our amazing all-star custodian, and his team, B-Jay Clisham and Jesse Hilliard. On those snowy and icy mornings, Mr. Grant comes to the school extra early to begin the snow removal process. A school such as Glacier Peak does not open safely without someone as dedicated as Mr. Grant and his team. Thank you, Mr. Grant, your exemplary service does not go unnoticed.
February really flew by, and the remaining months will go by just as fast. Thank you for taking the time to meet during our Parent/Teacher conferences. We value having the opportunity to connect with each of our families to chat about your child(ren)’s progress. I also want to thank our families who took the time to take the Family / School Relationships survey. As the results come in, I will be sharing our areas of strength and opportunities for growth as a school.
I want to send a friendly reminder about safety for morning drop off and afternoon pick up. With the increase in winter weather this year, more and more folks are driving to school. Please adhere to the traffic laws, and we ask that you also follow the direction of the staff who are directing families outside. We are not trying to make anyone upset, and know if we ask you to move your vehicle forward or to use the crosswalk, it is merely to keep all of our stakeholders safe. I can not express enough how our staff appreciates your warm waves during those cold mornings. It demonstrates a special display of understanding and compassion. Thank you!
From past experiences, I feel like time really flies in the spring semester, and now that we are turning the calendar to March, our actions and minds are turning to talks around CMAS testing, spring break plans, and our Glacier Peak Staff Week of Appreciation. As an update, Mrs. Costa and I have been pushing forward with classroom visits and observations. I am pleased to report that we are seeing so much evidence of strong teaching and learning that includes critical thinking and independent learners that shine in multiple content areas and genres. We get so excited to see students thinking differently and being responsive to high expectations. You have amazing children and we feel grateful every day that you have selected us for their elementary education.
I appreciate you reading through this week's update. It includes information on:
- Spring Picture Day information (This Friday)
- Upcoming CMAS Assessment for Grades 3, 4, 5
- Traffic safety reminders
Thanks so much for your continuous support! I cannot express enough gratitude for this amazing community. If you have any comments, questions, feedback, or compliments, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email at tim.griffin@adams12.org.
Respectfully,
Tim Griffin
Principal

CMAS State Testing for Grades 3, 4, & 5
It is that time of year that our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students begin to prepare for Colorado State Testing. Each grade will take 3 days worth of tests in both English Language Arts (reading and writing) and math. 5th graders will also test in science. Testing will begin two weeks after Spring Break. (April 4th) A draft of the testing calendar is included in this newsletter. This will be updated within next week. Please ensure your child gets a good night of sleep before the tests, eats a healthy breakfast (or gets breakfast at school), and is at school on time for testing days. Once testing begins in class, any student who arrives late cannot join their class and will have to make up testing during other times of the day. Students have been working extremely hard all year and we simply want them to try their best and take their time. They are amazing Grizzlies and we know they will do amazing.

Traffic Safety Reminders
Another important reminder for your attention. Please help us ensure the safety of our students by following our arrival and dismissal procedures. For review, here are the same tips that we shared before Winter Break:
- It is IMPERATIVE to pull all the way forward in the HUG and GO lane. By stopping early in the line close to the building causes major backups on Jasmine. This is dangerous, causing folks to make poor decisions because traffic is blocking the intersection.Pedestrians are at risk because there is not a full view for drivers. Cars that are not fully in the loop turning lane also cause traffic issues with neighborhood traffic proceeding past Glacier Peak.
- Time is important to all of us, but please slow down and be present when on Glacier Peak's campus and in the school zone.
Thank you in advance for your commitment to getting students to and from school in a safe manner.
