WALK for WESTBROOK
Thank you so much for supporting the Walk for Westbrook. The PTO did a fabulous job designing interactive animal-themed stations for our students to engage in. Due to the generous donations that came in from Westbrook families, the entire school has won a PTO-sponsored Kindness Quest Laser assembly. We are so proud of all our students, and we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments.
2023 Parent/Teacher CONFERENCES
Fall parent-teacher conferences will be held on November 1st, 2nd, and 9th. You can use this 2023 Conference Sign-Up link. Sign-ups will open on October 6th at 4 PM. The sign-up period will remain open until Friday, October 27th. Families will have the flexibility to choose between an in-person conference or a Zoom conference.
HALLOWEEN at Westbrook
Halloween is quickly approaching. The Halloween parade schedule is below. Families are invited to attend the outdoor parade at their child’s assigned time. We will walk out of door #1 and parade around the school. Please spread out so that all families can see the students walk by.
Students are invited to wear their costumes to school for the full day. It is important to ensure students are in comfortable costumes to sit in the classroom and use the bathroom. Please help your child make safe and respectful decisions about their costumes. Students may wear an appropriate mask in the parade but not during school. Make-up, weapons, fake blood, or inappropriate dress are not allowed. All costume accessories will be left in the classroom for recess and lunch. Students may NOT bring food or candy to share.

October is BULLYING PREVENTION Month
In District 57, we take the prevention of bullying very seriously. All Kindergarten through 8th-grade students participate in weekly classroom meetings/advisory meetings to build classroom community and provide strategies for students on how to prevent/handle potential bullying situations. This is done, in part, using the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit. These instructional materials offer an opportunity for students to share their feelings and opinions, to suggest solutions, and to learn to follow the rules and handle bullying situations appropriately. It also builds class community and cohesiveness and recognizes the achievements and successes of the class as a whole.
We encourage any student or parent who is aware of a potential bullying situation to report the issue immediately to a staff member. This report will initiate an investigation. Whether or not the issue is found to be bullying, any behavior that does not follow school expectations will be addressed. We want all students to feel safe and comfortable during their time at school, and we are committed to removing barriers that are preventing this for individual students or groups of students. Bullying is intentional physical, verbal, or social aggression. It’s often repeated over time and occurs when there’s a real or perceived power imbalance.
Kindergarten COMMUNITY HELPERS
Kindergarten students will have an opportunity to visit community helper stations on Friday, October 30th. Stations will include presentations from the Mount Prospect Police Department, and Fire Department. We are hoping to have either the Public Works Department, a representative from Republic Services or a dentist visit students as well. There will also be time for play during the class rotations. Presentations will take place in the music room, art room, and outside. Classroom teachers and administrators will be with students throughout their community helper experience.
