Sylvester Amorsolo, Science Teacher
(VGHS) Mr. Sylvester Amorsolo, Science Teacher, received the Stepping Out From Behind The Counter Award. Principal Vance Danzy says, "Mr. Amorsolo has shown so much Vista Grande pride. He is a phenomenal Department Chair and really cares about the subject he teaches. One of the biggest things is being present for our students and teaching them every day. So, when one of his fellow teachers in his department is gone, he takes the time to set up the subs for that class within the department with no hesitation. This is so helpful when the morning is hectic. I appreciate how he takes the initiative to do that. To me, this is leadership. Another great spotlight is how Mr. Amorsolo's department went above and beyond during Meet Your Teacher Night. The Science Department had cool interactive science stations that were entertaining. The planning of the activities and time they all spent showing the groups of people how they worked made it fun and was so wonderful to see. We appreciate all you do!"

Blake also plays a significant role on both the varsity and JV team continuing to keep our program unified. At the JV level, Anthony Colbert received the “Relentless” award. Anthony puts his body on the line every day for the team, playing through injuries and going right back out there to give it his all after the trainer attends to him. English 10: Guest Speaker
(VGHS) Local artist, teacher, and CGUHSD alum, Erica Herman, presented a lesson on creativity in Mrs. Angie Weddle’s English Language Arts classroom on Friday, January 12. What is creativity? Can it be learned? How can it be used in my academic, personal, and future life? The answers are complicated, but the solution is easy. Creativity is not a genetic trait, but an alternative way of thinking that can be taught and has beneficial aspects that bleed into all areas of life. With a grant funded by the City of Casa Grande to bring creativity back into the classroom, Erica Herman will guide students in a series of lessons through the process of becoming a creative thinker.

Scholarship Opportunities
It is a known fact college is expensive and the cost is rising. Do not let that deter you from applying for college. There are many opportunities to help you cover the cost of college. Scholarships are gifts of "free money" that do not need to be paid back, unlike student loans. Most scholarships can be awarded based on merit, which means that students earn them for having good grades, athletic talent, volunteering, or even for a certain demographic. Every year, hundreds of billions of dollars are awarded in scholarship money. There are many sources of scholarship, such as colleges and universities, military, individuals, communities, nonprofits, ethnic/historical organizations, businesses, religious groups, and more. Some scholarships are highly selective but many are not. The best practice is to apply for as many scholarships as possible and start early.
