A Fantastic February Attendance Initiative!
The most fundamental element for school success is that children consistently come to school on time for the full day. Children who are chronically absent in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the third grade. Students who cannot read at grade level by the end of third grade are four times more likely than proficient readers to drop out of high school. – U.S. Department of Education Report on Chronic Absenteeism in the Nation’s Schools
Share your feedback on the Elementary Student Report Card by Friday, February 18
DCPS is revising the Elementary (Kindergarten-5th Grade) report card for future school years to respond to staff and family feedback on the current report card and ensure that our report card continues to be clear and supportive for our students and their families. Please take a few minutes to review the proposed report card and share your feedback at this link: https://publicinput.com/elementaryreportcard22. Questions? DCPS.OES@k12.dc.gov
Did you know you can access your students report card online?
DCPS utilizes a student portal in ASPEN that allows parents to view their student's grades online once they have published. This means no more having to wait as long for the U.S Mail.
Click here to learn how to access the Student Portal in Aspen (guide is available in English and Spanish).COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics Now Open!
The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and free. The Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for children 5-11 years old will be available at more than 60 pharmacies, hospitals, and health centers as well as health clinics throughout the community, including at DCPS locations across all eight wards.
- All clinics will occur Monday-Friday from 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.
- Students can receive their first or second dose at any location. COVID-19 vaccines for students ages 12 and older and adults are available, too, as well as boosters!
Getting your child vaccinated will help keep your student safe and in the classroom, where we know students learn best. Students who are fully vaccinated do not need to quarantine if they come in close contact with someone in or outside of the school who tests positive for COVID-19. Learn more about our health and safety measures when there is a COVID-19 case at school at dcpsreopenstrong.com/health/response.
Let’s all show our love and appreciation for our teachers and staff this Valentine’s Day.
Students will be coming home with red or pink heart papers. Please have your student decorate the hearts and/or write short notes to their teachers. Please don’t forget our amazing specials teachers and para-professionals as well!
RETURN during a.m. drop-off Thursday and Friday. We’ll have collection boxes outside each of the entrances.
** Please return NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, February 11th so that the PTA can compile for a community display. Have questions or want to participate in displaying the valentines? Email the jowilsonpta@gmail.com. **
