Our second celebration shout out is for the 3rd grade team for their amazing work making ALP “live beyond the table” during their team meeting. During planning last week, the team collaboratively scored the unit 3 formatives on fractions. This collaboration made sure they were equitable with scoring amongst all classrooms, and with the support of Jen & Mr. Wulf, they were able to discuss misconceptions and questions as they came up. This was also a huge time saver, so when they get back to the ALP table, they can start with instructional design. This is when the magic happens; when teachers get “plans on the books” that are based on student data. The intentional planning will accelerate student learning!! Way to use your time meaningfully, 3rd grade team!

Thank you to the 54 staff members that completed the Translanguaging Survey as part of our SIP Progress Monitoring.

A summary of results are linked below. The results continue to help inform the work of our School Improvement Team as well as the targeted Professional Learning that is being planned and facilitated through our FCPS EL Department.

Staff were asked to complete a translanguaging survey so we can figure out how we can best meet the needs of our staff and students. 54 staff members completed the baseline survey. More than half of the staff that completed the survey have tried previewing learning to build background, allowing students to reflect, using cognates and Tier III academic vocabulary. Currently, 28/54 staff members think they have average understanding on translanguaging.. Additionally more than half of the staff who took the survey feel comfortable providing translanguaging strategies to students. Staff have seen that students are more involved in their learning when they apply the translanguaging strategies. Staff have asked for additional resources and more PL on translanguaging. This survey data has been shared with the EL Central Office team to help them build PL that is based on staff needs for translanguaging.

Starting in Term 1 this year, we have the ability to run the Report Cards in Spanish (not just a KEY)! If the student's home language is Spanish, we will process the Report Card run to generate a Spanish Report Card. My initial thoughts are that we'd send home both the English and Spanish Report Cards for these students.

All Staff have access to the HES Google Calendar. This calendar will serves as our school-based calendar for coordinating school events. Everyone will have edit access and is able to add events. This means that you can add your class / grade / school-wide events to the calendar. This is an INTERNAL calendar.

Examples of items to add: Family Engagement Events, Field Trips, Guest Speakers, etc.
