Weekly Update
October 13th-20th, 2023
We Had A GREAT Week @ PHCS:
Elementary Update:
Students had a wonderful time shopping the Scholastic Book Fair.
We appreciate your support to promote reading at home.
The weather has shifted- Fall rain and cooler temperatures lead us to change up our outerwear and footwear for outdoor play. Please provide a light jacket or sweatshirt and shoes that can get muddy or wet so students can continue to get outside and remain active during the day.
MS/HS Updates:
The Model UN team traveled to Beekmantown Central School on Thursday to compete in their first conference of the year. Delegates represented their respective nations well and debated on important international issues like claims in the South China Sea, deforestation, and brain drain. Several students were even authors on winning resolutions!
On Friday, 11th and 12th Graders met with individuals from local Fire Departments to learn how to get involved in their local community. The presentation was meaningful and impactful, and the students were definitely shocked to hear the state of volunteerism in the United States and in St Lawrence County. 11th and 12th grade asked questions and heard from former PHCS students that also went through the RAM program and are now full duty firefighters. 4 students requested applications (2-11th and 2-12th graders) and took them home to discuss with parents. We will likely have 4 new junior members as a result of todays presentation.
On Friday, our 8th Graders Visited the John Brown Farm. Students learned about the famed abolitionist and life in the Adirondacks during the mid 19th century. Students saw a musket firing demo, tasted herbs from a garden, explored the Brown farmhouse and gravesites, and learned about the little-known Timbuctoo settlement attempt. Staff applauded our student behavior throughout the day. We are proud of our PHCS kiddos!
Tonight the Class of 2024 and 2026 PARENT GROUP
