No School - Friday, November 10 - Veteran's Day
Principal's Message
Hello Lincoln Community,
Yesterday marked the end of first quarter! Next week we'll send home grade reports for each student. Also, remember: Next Friday, November 10, is the Veteran's Day Holiday and there's no school.
A Fun Week! This week we had a Character dress up day on Tuesday and we've included pictures plus a link to our Dolphins Facebook Page with more pictures. We also had an incredible field trip to Woodburn High School where our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders filled the theater and got to see an amazing performance of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. If you and your family wish to see it, the show is still going this evening and tomorrow (information is included in this newsletter).
Don't forget that this weekend, November 4-5, is the end of Daylight Savings Time and we change our clocks back an hour. This'll give us an extra hour of light in the morning, while making for an even earlier sunset.
Thank you for your Partnership! As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!
Sincerely,
Teresa Alfaro - Principal
Peter McDougal - Assistant Principal

Safety Reminders
As the weather is gets colder, please remember that when it's wet or icy, it takes a little longer to go to and from school. In the event that we have no school or a delayed start due to inclement weather, our District sends out communications to families and posts them to multiple media channels. With this in mind, please make sure to keep a current email address in our school system so you can be sure to receive these communications.
Thank you for helping our students, staff, and community stay safe as we begin and end each day!
Speaking of safety...
Now is a GREAT time to make sure you're signed up for FlashAlert, because FlashAlert is the primary way that we notify staff of emergency alerts like school closures or late starts (we do NOT use a phone tree for notifications any more!). You can sign up to receive Flash Alerts via email as well as via phone notification. If you'd like to learn more about how to sign up for Flash Alerts, you can watch this helpful tutorial, then click the button below to sign up.
Woodburn High School Theatre Presents "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe"
Woodburn High School is thrilled to announce that the WHS Theater will present its fall production of "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe," starting today, Friday, October 27. This is a dramatization of C.S. Lewis's classic novel that captures the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his battle against the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who unexpectedly find themselves in the enchanting world of Narnia. The story is a journey filled with chases, duels, and daring escapes, as the White Witch strives to maintain control over Narnia and overthrow Aslan. This tale of love, faith, courage, and the triumph of good over evil is a genuine celebration of life.
Event Details:
Duration: Approximately 90 minutes
Content: Family-friendly with some fantasy violence (likely PG if it were a film)
The cast and crew comprise over thirty Woodburn High School students. Director Caleb Thurston expresses his excitement, stating, "This is a story I have longed to bring to life, and it serves as a timely reminder that good will always prevail over evil."
Performance Dates:
November 3 and 4 at 7:00 pm
November 4 at 2:00 pm
All performances will be held at the Woodburn High School auditorium. General admission tickets are priced at $8.00 each and can be purchased from the box office 30 minutes before each performance. For additional information or to reserve your seats, please contact Caleb Thurston at cthurston@woodburnsd.org or 503-980-6275.

Reminder - Ideas for Parents: Conversations With Your Student
After school each day, we encourage you to check in with your student to find out how it went. Some students are ready to talk right away, others may need a little time before they're ready. As a helpful guide, here are some questions you might consider, perhaps picking one or two each day.
- What made you smile today?
- What’s something new that you learned?
- What was something interesting that happened?
- Who is someone who helped you today?
- What are you most proud of today?
- What students did you spend time with today?
- Who did you sit with during lunch?
- What did you do during recess and who was with you?
- What did you learn during (math, reading, etc.)?
- What was the most difficult thing that happened today?
- If you could change one thing about today, what would it be?
- What’s something that you’re looking forward to getting to do tomorrow?

Parent/Family Volunteers
Would you like to join the Lincoln Elementary community for field trips and other special occasions? We LOVE our parent and family volunteers! Whether you'd like to help out for special events like accompanying your child on field trips or volunteering on picture day, or whether you'd like to volunteer on a more regular, ongoing basis, we'd love to have you! Here's what you need to know.
There are three steps you'll need to take to become a volunteer:
- Read this Volunteer Handbook
- Watch this safety presentation
- Complete this Volunteer Packet, your application, the online volunteer training, and an online criminal history verification information form
You will need either a driver's license or other state-issued ID for safety reasons.
You can complete your training online, and turn in your completed volunteer packet to the Lincoln office at any time during regular office hours (school days, 7:20-3:30). NOTE: it can take a few weeks for your background check to be completed, so if you'd like to accompany your child on upcoming field trips you'll want to get this turned in RIGHT AWAY. If you have questions about volunteering, please contact Amaris Chavez at amaris.chavez@woodburnsd.org, or call the main office at (503) 981-2825.
