School opportunities and information
Instrumental Music
Our new (to us) instrumental music teacher, Mr. Damicone, is excited to encourage the musical journeys of our 4th and 5th grade students. 4th grade students may choose to play the violin, viola, cello, or double bass in 4th Grade Strings class. 5th Grade students may choose to play the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or percussion bell kit in 5th Grade Band class. Students who played a stringed instrument last year may continue to play the same instrument this year in 5th Grade Strings class.
To join instrumental music, follow these steps:
1. Visit Mr. Damicone's website: www.bit.ly/ccsinstrumental
Read the information on the website and sign-up on the “Join” page!
2. Get an instrument! After joining online at the website, you’ll need to get all required materials (including an instrument) ready for our first class. All information is listed on the website, including recommended music stores with affordable rental plans. Contact Mr. Damicone at tdamicone6514@columbus.k12.oh.us if you need help getting an instrument. Instruments from Amazon are NOT allowed for class.

Attendance and Absences
Regular school attendance is very important to student academic success. Students should be in school as much as possible, when they are healthy.
But what happens when your child is sick and needs to stay home? The school needs to be notified of absences each day that a student is not in the building. Also, please be sure to send in any medical excuse notes (from caregivers, doctors, therapists, etc.) as soon as possible after the absence has occurred. The school phone number is 614-365-5488. Did you know that you can send an email to let us know your student will be absent from school? You can! You can also take a photo of the appointment excuse note and attach it to an email. No more wondering if your student remembered to turn in the paper. Contact us with all things concerning attendance here: attendance.northtowne@columbus.k12.oh.us
Soccer with Final 3rd Foundation (F3 Foundation)
Is your student in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade interested in soccer or willing to explore the sport? Consider signing them up for the F3 Foundation afterschool soccer and literacy program. This year, boys and girls may participate at Northtowne. The afterschool meetings are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:45pm to 5:00pm. We start the program on Monday, September 11. Registration will be open until Friday, September 22. Students may not stay without a registration form on file and caregivers must pick up students at the school at 5:00pm. Flyers have been sent home. If you need another copy contact your student's teacher or the Family Ambassador, Sarah Bowman.
Final Third Foundation (F3 Foundation) is in the business of leveling the playing field on and off the pitch. Founder and Executive Director Benjamin Levey believes that “soccer can be an equalizer across communities and a catalyst to build a better generation.”
Led by F3 Program Managers, the F3 Soccer & Literacy program seeks to generate excitement for reading and writing outside of the classroom. In addition, the students are taught the fundamentals of the sport through drills and scrimmage play.
Picture Day
School Picture Day is a long standing school tradition in our culture. A yearly photo really starts to show how a child has been growing and developing over the years. The Northtowne picture day will be in October this year! More details will be coming as the photo studio provides us with current flyers and school codes for ordering photo packages. Watch for this information to be sent home in the coming weeks.
