Dear Minuteman Community,


I hope things are going smoothly for you during this unprecedented school year. I am appreciative of the opportunities I have had so far to collaborate, teach, and learn with instructors and students, including in academics, 9th grade exploratory, Senior Projects/library check-ins, and the upcoming CTE independent reading sessions. Please reach out with any ideas or requests for library collaborations or support.

Books on the Move Book Request Form

While the library media center is open for in-person visits, students' schedules may leave them with less time to stop in. To support access to library materials, the Minuteman High School library is offering book request and delivery services.


Students and staff are invited to complete the Books on the Move Book Request form. Book requests will be delivered to students when they are in school in their CTE shop. During 9th grade exploratory, books will be delivered to advisories. Over 48 book request forms have been completed, so far and more than 60 books delivered!

New Databases & Digital Resources

Providing access to digital resources has long been an important role of the library. Remote learning emphasizes this. See below to check out what's new in our digital media collections. All of these resources are available on the library media center website.

Classroom Video on Demand

The Classroom Video on Demand streaming video database contains over 9,300 titles / 120,300 segments of content spanning a wide variety of subject areas including academics and CTE. Check it out on our Databases page and learn more at "About Classroom Video on Demand." A specific username and password may be required (accessible when logged into your Office 365 account).

Flipster Digital Magazines

We now have Flipster digital editions of ARTnews, Discover, Eat Well, MotorTrend, and National Geographic magazines. Download the Flipster App or find these digital magazines in the Flipster carousel on the home page of the Library Media Center website. A specific username and password is required.

World News Digest

World News Digest is a trial database of major news stories from around the world, 1940 to the present. Its varied resources include news sources and context, this day in history, U.S. presidential elections, facts and statistics from the World Almanac, videos, and more. A specific username and password may be required (accessible when logged into your Office 365 account). It's on trial until 11/18/20 so please let me know what you think.

How-To Guides & Video Tutorials

The library has been expanding its how-to video tutorials to help students and staff navigate our many digital tools and resources. Check out the growing list of how-to video guides on our YouTube Channel or click on the image below for a direct link.

Ninth Grade Exploratory: Library Orientation

During the recent rotating exploratory week, a library orientation was presented to 9th graders. Students were welcomed to the library, and had the chance to explore digital materials and tools including our book catalog and Sora eBooks, databases, and Noodle Tools.

Pop-Up Exhibit: Rightfully Hers: American Women and the Vote

The year 2020 marks the centennial of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex."


Come by the library to view the pop-up exhibit Rightfully Hers: American Women and the Vote. An online version of the exhibit is available at the National Archives website.


In addition to successfully procuring this exhibit, the library also received a book donation grant from the American Library Association featuring related books for young people: Around America to Win the Vote and The Women's Hour: Our Fight for the Right to Vote.

BINGO!

Designed to encourage literacy and add extra fun to students' summer reading, the library media center recently wrapped up its first Summer Reading BINGO contest.


Sixty-four entries were received for the Summer Reading BINGO raffle. Nine students were randomly selected to receive a gift bag of book and Minuteman related goodies.
