Middle School Safety Drill - October 18th!
September, 2022
Dear Parents & Guardians,
The middle school’s upcoming safety drill is on Tuesday, October 18th. All school buildings in the state of Ohio are required to perform three additional safety drills of varying types during the next three years.
We have been working with safety personnel from all local jurisdictions, the Ohio State Patrol, and Premier Health over the last few months to create a plan for this full-day drill. The purpose of the drill is to prepare students with best practices because safety is of utmost importance to us, as we know it is with parents. All students and staff will have the opportunity to run through two scenarios that will provide us with a chance to practice and learn. While we understand these drills can cause students concern, we are taking measures to prevent unnecessary alarm. We want to prepare our staff and students for an emergency situation in a supported learning opportunity.
The specific details will be shared with the student body on the day of our drill. Here’s how you can help: Please avoid scheduling any doctors’ appointments or early release/late arrivals the day of the drill. Students will be involved in a scenario that may not allow for them to be dismissed quickly. We ask that you are patient if you have to drop off or pick up your student that day.
The end of the day has been set aside to debrief and discuss the day’s events with all students in small groups. We want to give students the opportunity to ask questions and alleviate any concerns. Guidance staff will be on hand and a Q/A will take place as we conclude the day with our school resource officer. We ask that you take some time before and after the drills to process the day’s events with your child, answer any questions they may have about safety outside of school, and alert us to any concerns.
In addition, we ask that you continue to speak up, and speak out when witnessing anything out of the ordinary. We value information and together we are better.
Sincerely,
Holli Gover
Middle School Principal
