Greetings Church.
Well, January has come and gone. I have to tell you how impressed I am at the unity shown by both churches at their respective Annual meetings. It is this unity that will help us as we seek to grow our churches.
And now, February, the month of love is upon us and an interesting coincidence is happening, both Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day are on the same day.
On Ash Wednesday, we receive the ashes on our forehead as a sign of repentance and humility. On Valentine's Day, we celebrate, romance, flowers, and candy. The two don’t seem to have much in common until we are reminded of the unifying factor of Love.
Love is not just a feeling, a sentiment, or an emotion. Love is a choice, a commitment, and a sacrifice.
On Valentine's Day, we express this love to our spouse, our family, and our freinds. We show our appreciation and gratitude for the gift of their presence and support in our lives.
On Ash Wednesday we are reminded that from time, into the everlasting, God's grace and love are always with us. Love is indeed the unifying factor.
My dear friends, let us celebrate this day with joy and gratitude. Let us thank God for his love and his gifts. Let us thank each other for our love and our friendship. Let us also seek to love God more and love each other better. Let us ask God to make this Lent a time of conversion and renewal. Let us ask him to make this Valentine's Day a time of celebration and blessing.
