It’s as Easy as 1, 2, 3… Electronic Resources to Support Your Students This Year!
From the Desk of Kim Bonen, Electronic Resources Coordinator
How can you implement a SDSL database into your classroom this fall? The SDSL subscribes to 58 individual databases - keep it simple by focusing on just one. Below are my recommendations by age group:
1- Elementary School
World Book Kids is designed to building confidence and encourage creativity. It has interactive, image-based navigation that helps young learners find information quickly and develop necessary digital literacy skills.
2 - Middle School
Culture Grams Kids Edition teaches upper-elementary- and middle school-age children more about the world around them. Each report contains pictures, historical timelines, and fun facts, along with sections on history, population, “life as a kid,” games and sports, education and more.
3 - High School
Learning Express Library – High School Students contains resources for building classroom and homework skills in math, English language arts, social studies, science, and technology. Learning Express Library offers seven targeted learning centers – each with a collection of practice tests, tutorials, e-books, articles and flashcards.
Is Your Classroom Ready To Rock N’ Roll?
Make sure your students are able to access the SDSL databases once they are back in the classroom! Don’t wait until the last minute (or during class) to discover a broken link. Get a jump start on ensuring your students have everything they need by going through the Back to School Database Check.
To access the SDSL databases:
- Open a web browser and go to https://library.sd.gov.
- Click on “Electronic Resources,” and select desired database.
