Coins for a Cause begins next week. Each grade level selected a charity to raise money for and students in each grade level can bring in donations to support their charity. The grade level that collects the most money will win an additional $50 donation to their charitable organization. 100% of the donations will go to the individual charity.

Please bring in your donations throughout the week (though the day designation really doesn't matter). We are trying to all do OUR part to support some great organizations helping others!

Monday - Pennies

Tuesday - Nickels

Wednesday - Dimes

Thursday - Quarters

Friday - Bills

Thank you all for your support of the USD458 Major Saver card fundraiser. The Education Foundation stopped by on Friday morning and gave OUR school a check for $2077.50. This money will be used to support a variety of efforts throughout the school year. Thank you again!

During the month of September, our weekly counseling lessons focused on Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Respect is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Each grade level focused on a different aspect of respect.

Kindergarten: Practicing Respect through whole body listening

First Grade: Practicing Respect with our friendships

Second Grade: Practicing Respect to understand solving problems

Third Grade: Using Respect by practicing perspective taking

Fourth Grade: Using Respect while practicing conflict resolution

Fifth Grade: Showing Respect as a leader

Family Focus

Review Respect as a family! Remember that in our lessons we are teaching that Respect means to see value in people and things and treat them with care. Agree as a family to set aside a certain time each day this week to unplug from devices and plug into family time. It shows Respect to practice being present in the moment without the distractions that can come from technology. Debrief and discuss this challenge afterward and commit to this practice at least 1 day each week!

OUR GRAY HAWKS are doing amazing things everyday to show kindness and make OUR school the best place it can be. Kindness is so important and we want our students to know their acts of kindness matter. Every Friday, Miss Hubbard will recognize students she has caught being kind throughout the week. Students who were caught being kind will have their name and act of kindness announced over the intercom, receive a certificate, and have their picture and act of kindness displayed at school.

Research shows that traditional behavioral modification techniques and full reliance on rewards and consequences are often ineffective with the students who need it the most. In this 5th and final video in the series, Dr. Perry lays out several easy-to-implement strategies for teachers and their classrooms, resulting in a significant impact on the overall social, emotional, and academic functioning of the students.
