Chester Elementary School
January 30, 2023. A Year of Significance!
CES Happenings
I would like to devote this article to some events this week that deserve additional attention. As you are likely aware, we experienced some safety concerns. The circumstances were certainly important enough that they warrant some closure as we look forward to school next week and beyond.
On Wednesday, there was an initial incident that was investigated. While the process was well intended, I missed a step by not communicating some of this information to CES staff and parents. I apologize for this and it won’t happen again. With the above in mind, I would like to share with you the protocols that are in place for this sort of an incident.
A potential threat is reported to a school site administrator.
All threats are investigated by the site administrator.
The administrator determines what communication needs to take place and when (ex. students, parents of those involved, student and parents of those impacted by the incident, all CES students or all CES parents, etc.)
If the threat is to be investigated, a PUSD threat assessment protocol is utilized.
The investigation will determine whether or not the threat is a “transient threat,” a “serious threat” or a “very serious threat.”
Law enforcement is contacted and informed of the incident and provides additional guidance to administration on the viability of the threat.
Appropriate action is taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
Please talk to your child about helping their school be a safe place: if they see or hear something, say something to a staff member about it. Chester Elementary School is a great place with great kids and great staff! Here’s to moving ahead together. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you again for all of your input this week. It really did make for a better outcome.
Sincerely,
Scott Cory
Principal
