We’re excited to offer Girls on the Run this fall for kids in 3rd through 5th grade at Nixon. This program inspires kids to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates physical activity. Over a 10-week period, participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges that girls face at this age. And then they develop strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences! Through it, they also make new friends, build their confidence, and celebrate all that makes them unique.
Physical activity is woven into the program to inspire an appreciation for fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health. At the end of each season, the participants participate in a Girls on the Run 5K run/walk event. This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the program. Crossing the finish line is a defining moment when each program participant realizes that even the seemingly impossible IS possible.
The fall season starts on September 12th. Registration is open until Wednesday, September 6 and may reopen through the end of the first week but ONLY if spots are still available. There are full and partial scholarships available! You can register your child at www.girlsontheruniowa.org.
Practices are led by trained volunteer coaches who have all successfully completed a background check. We’re in need of one coach to ensure that our team will have the opportunity to participate in this transformative program this fall.
