Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools
State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.
Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.
Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.
Review and Update Emergency Information
If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.
All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.
We look forward to partnering with you to make 2021-22 a safe, fun and productive school year for all of our students and families.

ATHLETICS
SPORTS SCOREBOARD
12/11 - Boys Varsity Hockey
The Lightning boys traveled to Farmington on Saturday afternoon for a South Suburban Conference matchup, coming away with a 2-1 victory that raised their record to 4-1 on the season.
The game was fast paced from the opening face-off with few whistles and no penalties by either team in the opening frame. The Lightning were on their toes and carried the play early, taking a 1-0 lead on a deflection by Tanner Kronberg at 5:49. Assists went to Logan Opgrand, who took a shot from the point, and John Kisch. The Tigers stepped up their game halfway through the first by creating a few scoring opportunities with quick neutral zone transitions. Eastview managed seven shots to Farmington’s six for the period and a 1-0 lead.
The Lightning once again came out with energy, carrying the play early in the second. Just two minutes in, Charlie Ortman rocketed a shot off of the right post. That near miss was followed by extended zone time during which Defenseman Ryan Moline and Nick Karam nicely kept the puck in the zone leading to another great chance by Zach Wooten that slide just past the right post. Momentum changed quickly, though as the Tigers renewed their efforts to fly the neutral zone, leading to a two on one and a breakaway in the middle of the period, but Lightning goalie Jay Svaren was up to the task. However, the Tigers scored on a third partial breakaway at 12:58 to tie the game at 1. For the period, the Tigers outshot the Lightning 8-6.
The start of the third brought the first penalty and Lightning power play just 20 seconds in. The Lightning had trouble finding shooting lanes as the Tigers blocked several shots in killing the penalty. Momentum shifted again as the Lightning began to create opportunities halfway into the third. Kisch found Gabe Tritschler at the right dot on a nice cross ice feed halfway through the period. The Tiger net minder stood strong until 16:42 when Tritschler found Jordan Larkee streaking down the right side for the game winner!
For the game, the Lightning outshot the Tigers 24-21 with goalie Jay Svaren having a strong afternoon stopping 20 of 21 shots. The Lightning are now 2-0 in the South Suburban Conference and eager for a big test at Prior Lake on Tuesday evening at 7pm. Super fans needed at the Dakotah! Ice Arena.
12/7: Boys Varsity Hockey
The #20 ranked Eastview Boys Hockey beat Eagan 5-1 Tuesday night at Apple Valley Sports Arena. Eagan opened the scoring with a snipe from the top of the circle just 36 seconds into the game. From there it was a tight game until Cody Domaglaski scored the first of two goals to tie it at one late in the second period on a nice tip shot from Nick Karam, also assisted by Charlie Ortman. Tanner Kronberg gave the Lightning a 2-1 lead on a tip shot of his own from Ben Keefer and John Kisch. The second period ended 2-1 with Eastview pulling the momentum they needed into the 3rd period.
10 minutes into the 3rd period Jordan Larkee made a nice move on the goalie to make it 3-1 Eastview. Kisch and Kronberg each had nice passes to set up the Larkee goal. 12 seconds later the Lightning scored again with a goal by Tyler Cords assisted by Ryan Moline and Domagalski. Domagalski notched his 2nd goal of the game with about four minutes left to put the game away. Jay Svaren was very solid in nets stopping 23 of 24 shots and getting his 3rd win of the season. Eastview travels to Farmington for a conference matchup this Saturday at 3PM.
JV SPORTS
12/11: EV Boys JV Hockey Team Ties the Tigers
The Eastview boys JV hockey team headed south to Farmington on Saturday to face the Farmington Tigers. The Tigers were the first to put the puck in the net with 11:16 left in the first period when Farmington blasted one by Eastview goalie Blake Jensen's left shoulder. Eastview outshot Farmington 9 to 4 in the first, but Farmington defended the net well and the first period ended with the Lightning down 0 to 1.
Eastview came out strong again in the second period and had some excellent opportunities to score. Farmington was assessed a 5 minute major penalty for head contact against forward Luke Wasilowski with 3:37 left in the second. The Lightning moved the puck well during the power play, but ended the period still down 0 to 1. Eastview had twice as many shots on net as Farmington (8 to 4) in the second.
With 1:23 left in the power play at the beginning of the third, hopes were high for a Lightning goal. Unfortunately the Lightning failed to capitalize on the five minute major. Finally, with less than 8 minutes left in the game, Eastview forward Jaymeson Zackery got the egg off the scoreboard on a sweet breakaway goal. The officials credited Louis Rogers with the assist but Zackery gave the nod to Graham Ellingson. At the end of the regulation, the game was tied 1-1 and went into overtime.
After losing Tuesday night’s game to Eagan in OT, the Lightning fought hard during OT and held the Tigers to zero shots. Farmington’s goalie saved Eastview's two shots on goal during OT and ended the night with 29 saves. Eastview's Blake Jensen was strong in the net and helped secure the 1-1 tie with 8 saves. The boys travel to Prior Lake on Tuesday, Dec 14 to face the Lakers at 5:00 pm. Go Lightning!
12/7 - JV Boys Hockey Team Unable to Tame the JV Wildcats from Eagan
The Eastview boys JV hockey team hosted Eagan at the Apple Valley Sports Arena on Tuesday evening, their first home game of the season and their first conference game of the season. The Lightning came out strong in the first period, outshooting Eagan 12 to 6, and built a 2-0 lead. Ethan Hansen #15 got the scoring started with an even strength goal
at 3:03 when he buried a rebound in the slot, the lone assist going to Owen Likubo #13. Billy Downs #23 put the Lightning up 2-0 at 13:55 on the power play, an unassisted goal. The first period ended 2-0 in favor of the Lightning.
Eagan came out strong in the second period, outshooting the Lightning 14 to 7 and scoring twice to tie the game at 2-2. Eagan scored an even strength goal at 1:49 and another even strength goal at 3:28, which was all the scoring in the second period. The second period ended 2-2 with total shots on goal of 20 to 19 in favor of Eagan.
Eagan took the lead at 2:16 of the third period on an even strength goal and then both teams battled hard until the Lightning tied the game with a huge goal at 13:23 of the period. Billy Downs #23 scored his 2nd goal of the game, with assists going to Gavin Churness #38 and Graham Ellingson #22. Regulation play ended in a 3-3 tie, with total shots of 32 to 29 in favor of the Lightning. Unfortunately Eagan intercepted a break out pass just inside the blueline in the Lightning zone and fired a wrist shot just inside the blocker side post of the Lightning goal at 17 seconds of overtime, giving the Wildcats a 4-3 OT win. The Lightning are now 4-2-1 for the season, 0-1 in conference play.
Kaden Goff #1 was solid in net for the Lightning, facing a total of 30 shots, making some great saves in the second period to keep the game tied. The Lightning travel south to Schmitz-Maki Arena in Farmington on Saturday December 11th at 1:00 PM, looking for their first conference win.
