Happy Friday!

Dear Families,

As we enter October, there are so many great things going on at EHMS and much to celebrate! Tomorrow, we have Parent Teacher Conferences after school. Come to Heights between 2:30 and 5:45 to meet your child's teachers and get updates on their academic progress. If you haven't done so, we encourage you to sign-up for a conference time. This month, we have our Bike & Roll event, campus-wide Boo Thru, and our Halloween Dance. Make sure to write down our important dates so you don't miss out! PBIS Matrix

Consistency is key to your Pioneer's success in school. At EHMS, our staff and students utilize common PBIS expectations while in the class, halls, restrooms, and cafeteria. They are posted throughout the building, and referred to frequently by our staff. Take a look at our class and hall posters, so you can help support your Pioneer's success at Heights.

Cell Phones and Attire

Hoodies, and similar tops or jackets with hoods, are "fan favorites" when it comes to school attire. We like them, too, but not when they are worn up and over the head during the school day.

The district's Student Code of Conduct provides direction on headgear, stating that it may not be worn over a person's head or scalp (excluding headgear that's worn for religious or medical reasons.) Hoods can make it difficult to identify an individual in an emergency, and they can also be a distraction in class. Please remind students that hoods may not be worn up during the school day.

The Student Code of Conduct also offers guidance on attire. Clothing must be school appropriate and may not present a health or safety hazard or disrupt the educational environment. Pants and tops must fit properly and be in good repair; crop tops are not permitted.

Additionally, footwear must be school appropriate--slippers and slipper socks are not permitted. Blankets also may not be worn in school.

Students may bring their cell phones to school but they must be turned off and put away during the day unless they are used as a part of a teacher-directed lesson in class. Same rules apply to Bluetooth headphones--they may not be worn during the school day.

If you need to reach your student during the school day, please contact the main office and our staff will convey a message or assist you in reaching your student.

Personal Growth Mondays

This month, we are continuing our character development program for each grade level at Heights. It will take place during our morning WIN and entails different facets of positive character and winning culture. Our Assistant Principal Mr. Church, with a wealth of leadership knowledge, will facilitate this program. Each month will focus on a specific theme such as personal accountability and response to adversity. This program will tie into our building PBIS goals and reinforce a common language for our students and staff. Reach out to Mr. Church if you want to learn more about the program.

Petey Bucks

This year, students have the chance to earn Petey Bucks from staff. Bucks are earned when students are seen doing positive deeds from our PBIS matrix. The Bucks are dropped into a box and a winner is chosen from each grade level at the end of each day. Prizes include snacks, fidgets, Elyria swag, and more. The more Bucks collected, the more chances for a student to win!

Traffic Flow Reminder

Please review the map to help our drop-off and pick-up times run safely and smoothly. Our first bell rings daily at 7:20 am, and the late bell rings at 7:30. We dismiss at 2:15 pm. Remember to follow all signage and traffic laws to ensure safe and orderly transit.

*IMPORTANT- Please make sure that our handicapped parking spaces are only used by designated vehicles. Other cars should not use them during drop-off/pick-up times.
