Notes From Our Admin Team
Dear Wredling Families:
One of the cool things I get to do as principal is get into classrooms and PLCs. I don't get into as many as I would like, but when I do, I get to see some pretty cool learning taking place! A few notes from the past week:
I got to see some high level poetry analysis in a 7th grade ELA class. Our new ELA resource, StudySync, has helped us increase rigor and the variety of texts our students are experiencing. These kids dug deep into the poem and had fun learning the hidden meaning behind what the author was saying.
I visited our 8th grade ELA PLC (professional learning community) where our teachers brought student data, and began to answer the four questions of a PLC: 1) What do we want students to know and be able to do? (standards and instruction) 2) how will we know when they know it? (assessment) 3) What do we do when some students don't understand what we have taught? (reteaching) 4) And what do we do if some students already know it? (enrichment) It was exciting to hear this group of educators talk about their instruction and how best to accelerate learning for all students.
Our Rise students came to our office delivering coffee, tea, and soda as part of their Rise and Shine coffee shop. Our Rise students develop life skills through the real life activity of filling orders, taking payment, and making change. This provides them (and us!) with some valuable face-to-face interactions. They are always our most enthusiastic entrepreneurs!
Being the principal at Wredling is the best job ever! While we certainly have our challenges, I get to see so many wonderful and positive moments of learning each week.
Enjoy your weekend-
Tim
Anyone can get head lice!
Head lice in school is fairly common. Education is the best defense against those tiny invaders. The Illinois Dept. of Public Health and CDC deems head lice “a public nuisance”; it is not a disease and therefore not reportable.
Facts & Myths:
Fact: Head lice spreads—direct head-to-head contact is their favorite mode of transportation (sports, sleepovers, selfies, sharing hair items).
Fact: Head lice move by crawling; they cannot hop or fly.
Myth: Contrary to popular belief, head lice actually prefer clean hair. They're not picky—they just want a warm scalp to call home.
What you can do:.
Encourage them NOT to share clothing (such as hoodies, hats, scarves, coats, towels, sports uniforms, hair ribbons, or barrettes, hair brushes/combs, etc.) with others.
Check your child's hair regularly
Wear hair in a ponytail or bun if fearful of spread.
Remember, quick action and good hygiene practices are the best ways to deal with these unwelcome visitors!
More Information:
Parents and students, please be kind and mindful when hearing a student has head lice. It may not be factual and, although a nuisance, head lice is not harmful to our health. How we respond to situations can affect students' emotional and mental well being. Words matter!
If you have any questions or concerns please contact the health office.

Belonging Survey
This past Wednesday (11/1/23), and moving forward, on the last student attendance Monday of each month starting we will be collecting information about the D303 Strategic Plan Core Value of Belonging. This will be in the form of four to five questions for students in grade levels three through twelve. If you would like to preview the form they are available on the https://district.d303.org/departments/assessment page. Scroll to the D303 Feedback and Surveys link, click, and read the section on Strategic Plan Core Value - Sense of Belonging Check in. The monthly collection of information on this core value will be used to better understand the current and evolving state of student belonging and consider areas for improvement.
