Updates From Mr. Brain
No School 12/2 and 12/5
A reminder that our 1st trimester will end on 12/1. There is no school for students on Friday, December 2nd for staff to enter grades and also no school on Monday, December 5th for professional development.
Join Our Team!
We still have a 5 hour elementary para position. The hours for that position are 10:00-3:00 or 10:30-3:30. You would work with some individual students in the morning and then help out at recess from 12:00-3:00. If you have questions about that position, please reach out to Mr. Brain. We would love to add you to our team.
We are also looking for substitute paras and teachers. If you want a flexible schedule and work when it works for your schedule, please consider subbing in our building. Winter Gear!
Just a reminder to send your student to school with boots, hat, mittens and gloves and snow pants for recess. It is also a good idea to label those materials with your student’s first and last name. We have a lot of lost and found as well. If you do not have the ability to get proper winter gear, please contact our social work office so we can help you out.
Pokemon Cards
We have a huge favor to ask! Please encourage your student to leave their Pokemon cards at home. We are seeing an increase in issues between students due to Pokemon cards. Typically we have trades that students later regret or cards end up being lost, stolen or destroyed. This sometimes ends up in student conflict or hurt feelings when students lose their cards. Please have your student leave their cards at home.
Volunteer Updates
School Spirit Wear Coordinator
Would you like to see some fun CBPA gear for you and your kids to be able to wear? We are looking for a coordinator or co-coordinator to get spirit wear up and running! A coordinator works with the vendor to determine what items we should offer and when, present items to the PTO, determine the marketing and communication to families and organize the distribution of the finished orders. Our previous coordinator is willing to work with the new coordinator(s) to train! If you are interested in getting this going at CBPA for this school year, please let me know so we can get started showing our Husky spirit!
Making Spirits Bright (MSB)
For those of you who are new to CBPA, MSB is our school wide compassion program in which local families in our CBPA attendance area are adopted to assist during the holidays with a gift giving and food drive. Volunteers are needed to come in daily during the campaign to help with the collecting, sorting and packing of food donations. Time needed is 9:15-10:30 a.m. Dates for collecting are 12/7-12/15. Five volunteers are needed each day. Please note, this is a volunteer opportunity in which you can bring younger children who are at home with you to help out! Hearing and Vision Screening
Volunteers are needed to help our health staff with hearing and vision. The screening this year needs to be done by the heath staff but volunteers are needed to help collect slips and direct students. There are 2 shifts available: 9:45 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 11:50 a.m. - 2 p.m. Just one volunteer is needed per shift. Please click on the link below if you would like to help:
Ninja Warrior Math Day
Ninja Math Warrior Day: As apart of CBPA's growing math integration specialty focus, we are excited to announce Ninja Math Days! We have partnered with Ninja United to come up with unique curriculum they will bring onsite for our students. Ninja Math Day is happening on Dec. 22nd for 2nd and 3rd graders. Students will receive a mini math lesson before going to the gym to complete Ninja courses. They will be collecting their individual data that will be used to create class and grade level information for students to analyze. Volunteers are needed to be at each station to monitor that students are writing down the data they collect. One volunteer is needed per station and each shift is one hour long. Cafe Helpers
Thank you to those volunteers who have helped us out in the lunchroom these first few months of school. Your help is very much appreciated! Volunteers are needed to help with getting the students through the serving line, assisting them while they are eating, helping them during lunch dismissal and wiping down tables. The time is 11 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. However, if you are not able to commit to the entire time - that is ok - we will take whatever time you are willing to offer. PTO Updates
Raising Cane's Restaurant Night
Join us on Wednesday, December 7 from 4-8pm at Raising Cane's in Brooklyn Park for CBPA PTO Restaurant Night! Some of the proceeds go directly back to CBPA PTO! See the event Facebook page for more details.
Husky Tags
The PTO introduces Husky Tags this year! Husky Tags are a way to recognize student participation in school activities and bring awareness to what students are learning in school. These collectible tags are distributed every month, with every student receiving a tag related to the social-emotional literacy topic of the month. This month's theme is Gratitude. Each student will receive a Birthday tag as well, in the month of their birthday (don't worry, summer birthdays, we have a plan for you, too!). Finally, Special Edition Husky Tags are offered for participation in special events! Field Trips, Fundraisers, and Husky Bingo are just some of the tags your student can earn. If you have any questions, or suggestions for future tags, please let us know at communications@cbpapto.org
Is your student missing their tags? Have them ask their teacher, and if it's lost, extra cables are available in the VSC office.
Plastic Film Recycling
Did you know plastic bags cannot be recycled with the rest of our plastic materials? Bring them to school! Once again, we have partnered with Trex to become a collection point for plastic bags and films to be recycled. We won a bench last year, can we do it again? Magnets were sent home this week to serve as a reminder to bring in those bags!
