Findley Elementary School
December 4, 2020
Message from the Principal
Greetings Findley Families,
Happy December! I hope the days off last week offered an opportunity for your family to reconnect, recharge, and have a much needed screen break.
The month of December at Findley is one filled with tradition. Typically, this is the month in which we participate in our annual Giving Tree and our Sing-a-Long. This year, as with so much in our lives in 2020, we will be making some adjustments and modifications to these two annual traditions.
Each December, our school community comes together to provide much needed holiday support for families in our school district. Our annual “Giving Tree” will be taking place, with a few modifications this year. If you wish to support families in need, please visit our website for information on how to donate on-line, or drop a gift card off at the office, M-F, 8:00-4:00. Thank you in advance for helping brighten people’s winter holiday season.
Also in December, Findley has traditionally held a holiday Sing-A-Long event. Last year, prior to the school shut closure, our school Leadership Team was evaluating our tradition of this annual Sing-A-Long in which we sing several, mostly Christmas, holiday songs. This year, as we work towards becoming an anti-bias, anti-racist school community, we are looking at this tradition even more critically. Given that we are in distance learning this year, we have the opportunity to rethink how we will continue this tradition and to be more inclusive and responsive to our diverse school community in future years. I welcome any feedback from our families on how we can make our annual sing-a-long more representative and inclusive. That said, we will be continuing the tradition of wearing our PJs to “school” the last day before Winter Break. Students are encouraged to participate, and don’t forget to take pictures and submit them for the yearbook! .You can do that here.
Finally families, December 15 is our second installment of our Parent Partnership Series. On this night we will be welcoming a guest speaker from The Parent Support Network. The evening will be facilitated by our school social worker, Sarah Healy. The focus is parent wellness and mental health strategies. We hope you can join us! RSVP information is below.
Enjoy your weekend, Dragons!

The 3 W’s for a Safe Holiday
WEAR your mask, WATCH your distance, WASH your hands
This year the Oregon Health Authority has encouraged everyone to participate in low-risk holiday activities to keep all Oregonians safe during the pandemic, because we know social gatherings have been the catalyst for a significant level of spread of the Coronavirus. If you are planning on gathering with family or friends this holiday season, it is important to remember the 3 W’s to keep you and your family safe - wear your mask, watch your distance, and wash your hands!
Low risk ideas for this holiday season:
● Make seasonal dishes with the people you live with
● Enjoy time outside and plan a family walk
● Meet virtually
● Shop locally or online
It is safest to stay home and celebrate. If you are planning on traveling or having someone who does not live with you attend your holiday activities, it is important to take precautions and celebrate safely.
Tips to help keep you and your family safe:
● Stay home and avoid others when you are sick or have been exposed to illness
● Get your flu vaccine
● Wear your face covering and only remove it to eat
● Wash your hands frequently
● Maintain 6 feet of distance
● Limit the gathering to 6 or less people
● Take your seasonal activities outdoors
● Prepare individual food plates to limit the sharing of utensils
● Drive instead of fly, if possible
● Get COVID-19 tested before going anywhere or reduce interaction with others outside of your home for 2 weeks before a social gathering
If you want more information, see additional CDC recommendations. Have a safe and joyous holiday season!
