TVUSD Community Update
Wednesday, June 2, 2021
Dear TVUSD Families & Staff,
As we enter our last days of the 2020-2021 school year, we look forward to celebrating our students and their accomplishments with many of our traditional, end-of-year events. This year has been filled with incredible challenges and uncertainty at every level, yet the TVUSD family has persevered. I continue to reflect with sincere admiration and gratitude at the strength and tenacity of our staff, families, and especially our students. Together, as a school community, we have navigated a global pandemic with constantly changing state and county requirements. Though it was undoubtedly the most difficult year for public school districts and many of our stakeholders, we remain impressed by the positive attitudes, grit, and grace exhibited by all.
The most exciting news as we wind down the current school year is that we intend to offer full-time, on-campus learning for all grades in 2021-2022. We eagerly await the state's reopening guidance for specifics, which is planned for release on June 15th. The most common questions we receive currently are with regard to masks/face coverings, vaccines, and playground access. Please know that TVUSD will not impose any health or safety restrictions beyond those required of us. It is our belief that both the CDC and state will "encourage" masks and vaccines but that they will not be required. Again, our intent is a typical daily schedule, with recesses/lunches/passing periods, P.E., etc., and without social distancing, masks, or vaccine requirements. We expect and are planning for school to look and feel like what it did prior to the pandemic.
One of the outcomes of the pandemic is our decision to offer flexibility and choices in learning environments. While many students have chosen to return to on-campus learning, others have chosen to remain online and have been very successful with the model. This is an exciting opportunity for TVUSD to expand our offerings to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. We look forward to adding a virtual education program for TK-8 entitled "Home INstead INnovation Academy" to correspond with our 9-12 Susan Nelson Independent High School Program. We are also adding options for comprehensive high school students to add 1-2 online courses to complement their in-person schedules.
As part of our planning for the full return in August, the TVUSD Before and After School Extended Services (BASES) Program is currently open for enrollment. The program will operate at elementary schools full-time, five days a week, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Enrollment for BASES is first come, first served. If you are interested, please visit the website at: https://www.tvusd.k12.ca.us/bases.
Thank you again for your continued support. We can't wait to see our students and families back on campuses full-time in August!
Warmly,
Jodi McClay, Ed.D.
