As we head into Summer Break, our Maintenance Staff is ready to take on some major projects in preparation for the 2023-24 school year. This hard-working group is a talented mix of individuals with many areas of expertise, allowing them to handle many projects in-house, instead of having to contract with third party vendors - this saves our District thousands of dollars each year. Click HERE for this week’s episode to hear more about what our Maintenance Department will be working on this summer.

CONGRATULATIONS SHS CLASS OF 2023 - PICTURES FROM COMMENCEMENT
We had an amazing day on Sunday, May 21 celebrating Strongsville High School’s Class of 2023! This class made their mark on SHS and they will not be forgotten. Their resiliency during their four years at SHS was highlighted throughout Sunday’s Commencement ceremony. They are a special class - we are excited to see and hear about their continued accomplishments as they begin their “life after SHS” journey. Click HERE for a folder of pictures from Commencement. Families of the Class of 2023 - be on the lookout for an email from Lifetouch with information on how to order your official Commencement photos.
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. LAUREN HOBE, 3RD GRADE TEACHER AT MURASKI ELEMENTARY
Mrs. Lauren Hobe has taught 3rd grade for 3 years at Muraski Elementary School. Mrs. Hobe knew from an early age that she would be a teacher, drawing inspiration from her dad, Steve Boros (SHS Social Studies teacher). “As a child, I remember going to Strongsville football games with him, watching as students would call his name, high five him, and say, ‘Your dad is my favorite teacher!’ Moments like these showed me the impact a teacher could have on the lives of students, and that I wanted to do the same thing someday. He has always been my biggest inspiration and number one supporter.”
“There are many things that I love about working with our students! I love being able to build a strong classroom community that places emphasis on social emotional learning as well as academic growth. I am so passionate about teaching my students life skills that they can carry on with them throughout their educational career. Within the school year, I have the honor of watching my students grow in so many ways, from those “lightbulb” moments in math class, to making a new friend on the playground. I feel so privileged to be able to celebrate those small wins with my students every day,” said Mrs. Hobe.
“One of the things I love most about coming to Muraski every day is knowing that we have such a great staff that are always open to collaboration and support. Within my 3rd grade team, we are able to accomplish so much in supporting our students’ learning. This collaboration is something that I value so much, because I know we share similar values and goals for our students. We are able to share ideas and feedback so well, and I feel like I have grown so much as a teacher by working with them.”
Thank you Mrs. Hobe for the tremendous impact you are having on our 3rd grade students at Muraski! #BeTheDifference
SMS CHAMBER STRING ORCHESTRA EARNS END OF YEAR ACCOLADES
Congratulations to the Strongsville Middle School Chamber Strings Orchestra for receiving a Superior Rating (I) in their recent competition and FIRST PLACE overall at Cedar Point’s Music in the Parks contest! We are very proud of all of these talented SMS musicians and their Director, Mrs. Bravo.
MURASKI 3RD GRADERS GROW THEIR CODING SKILLS
Mrs. Hobe and Mrs. Benson, Muraski Elementary 3rd Grade teachers, have been collaborating throughout the school year to help their students learn coding. Their classes take time each day to work on different modules and courses through coding.org which also sync to their Google Classrooms.
Recently, they have been coding games which teach their classmates about the environment. The students are presenting the games and allowing them to play each other’s games they have created. In addition they are working with their peers to help each other out if they run into any roadblocks when developing their coding. According to Mrs. Hobe and Mrs. Benson, this has been a great example of their students demonstrating the Model Mustang competencies of Innovative, Collaboration, and Global.
SARAH FLEMING (SHS CLASS OF ‘23) RECEIVES GOLD MEDAL / US CONGRESSIONAL AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP
Congratulations to Sarah Fleming (SHS Class of 2023) who will be receiving a Gold Medal in the United States Congressional Award for Leadership program on June 21 in Washington DC. The United States Congressional Award for Leadership is the highest honor a member of the United States Senate or House of Representatives may bestow upon a youth civilian. This program was established in 1979 to recognize initiative, service, and achievement in young people.
To achieve the highest honor of the Gold Medal, a combined 800 hours in volunteer public service, personal development, and physical fitness is required. Sarah achieved over 1,000 hours and continues her involvement. Sarah has earned all six levels in these categories, earning both Bronze and Silver Medals in the process, and will be awarded the Gold Medal at the U.S. Congressional Award Summit on June 21st along with other medal recipients across the nation.
Click HERE for the news release about Sarah's Gold Medal achievement.
KINSNER STUDENTS & FAMILIES MAKE “BUBBLE RUN” A HUGE SUCCESS
Last week, Kinsner PTA held their 2nd annual Fun Run (a “Bubble Run”) and blasted past their event fundraising goal, earning an impressive $21,000! This exceptional generosity from local businesses & families will help Kinsner PTA take a giant step closer to completing the final ‘phase 3’ of the school’s playground. Each of the following eighteen Kinsner students are leaders by example and difference makers at Kinsner and in our District - they went above and beyond and raised more than $300 each for this spring’s fundraiser. They are true examples of the motto for the project: ‘TOGETHER We Can Do BIG Things’.

PLAN AHEAD FOR SCS ENROLLMENT (2023-24)
Over the past few years, our District has seen a pattern of families waiting until the week or two prior to the first day of the school year to enroll. Waiting until August to enroll your student may delay the ability to have your child start on time, have busing ready, and/or attend their home elementary school. Click HERE to learn more and start the enrollment process. Once all of the necessary registration paperwork is submitted, SCS will finalize the registration process within 48 hours. For students that do not enroll until August, that extends to a 72 hour turnaround due to volume. Again, by registering children in June and July, we can ensure every student is ready to have a successful first day and school year.
BUS OPT OUT FOR 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR
In an effort to increase the efficient use of our available resources, we are requesting that all SCS families eligible for transportation services, yet do not plan to use busing services, to fill out a form to opt out. Please note that all eligible students can still receive busing services, but knowing which students will not be riding a bus will help us create the most efficient routes prior to the upcoming school year. If you do not plan to have your child ride the school bus next year, click HERE to opt out by June 16, 2023. Please submit a separate response for each student you are opting out for your family. Should your transportation needs change after you submit your response, just reach out to the Transportation Department and we will adjust accordingly.

Click HERE for the form to confirm immunizations for 7th graders
Click HERE for the form to confirm immunizations for 12th graders
