Helping Hands Important Information
Dear North Oakview Families,
The PTC, along with the staff at North Oakview, would like to share some important information with you regarding our Helping Hands Project for this year. This project has helped to provide opportunities for our students and their families to give back to those in need within our school during the holiday season.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer the Helping Hands Project this year and recognize that some families will still need this type of support over the holidays. Thankfully, there are many amazing resources that are available within our community.
Heart of West Michigan United Way The home of the 2-1-1 database where you can get connected to resources for food, shelter, utility assistance, disaster recovery, childcare, transportation, and more. If your family needs holiday food baskets or gifts for children ages 0-18, please contact 2-1-1 to obtain this information.
Dial 2-1-1 from a landline. Dial 1-800-888-1107 from a cell phone. Text your zip code to 898211* Chat with a 2-1-1 operator. Go to the website to search for resources on your own.
Health Net of West Michigan Resource navigation for basic needs as well as early childhood resources, behavioral health support, health coverage, dental coverage, and more. Call 616-726-8204.
Frontline Church Essentials Store Wonderful resource to support families in need of household supplies, personal hygiene items, baby items, diapers, and more. Visit the website for store hours and location.
Toys for Tots - Kent County Provides gifts for children up to age 13. Deadline to sign up for Toys for Tots is November 30, 2023.
Santa Claus Girls Provides gifts for children up to age 12. Must be able to provide DHHS Case Number to be eligible.
Salvation Army's Angel Tree Angel Tree Christmas 2023 Application is open for households with children and adult-only households (all members are 17+).
Sincerely,
The PTC and Staff of North Oakview
Book Fair
We are so excited for our NORTH OAKVIEW BOOK FAIR taking place October 16-19!
You will be receiving a YELLOW NOTE in your child's Friday Folder next week, with all of the Book Fair details you need to know, including the schedule with your child's day to shop the Book Fair.
However, we wanted families to know about an option to donate funds to support North Oakview readers before our Book Fair begins! Click here to donate funds to our North Oakview Donation eWallet. These funds will help provide book shopping for some of our North Oakview students who would otherwise not be able to purchase books at the Book Fair. The account will be listed under "Davies - 4th grade" but funds will be distributed as needed among ALL classrooms and ALL grades. Thank you for your consideration!
Please reach out to Mrs. Carrie Davies, Teacher Librarian, at cdavies@nvps.net with any questions or concerns related to the Book Fair.
Feed our Teachers
We need some help filling these spots - can you help with a Meijer Gift Card? Or by bringing an item next week? See sign up below.
Help us feed our teachers at North Oakview during conferences -Tuesday, October 17 and Wednesday, October 18. These 2 nights are very busy for teachers, and we want to provide a delicious dinner for them, so they have one less thing to worry about.
Please use the link below to sign up to bring an item and drop it off to the school office on the date that you signed up for before 3pm. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. If you signed up for a gift card, please deliver to the office by Friday, October 13. Thank you!

Lunchroom Help Sign Up

Mileage Club
Mileage Club is an extra activity that will be available to students outside during lunch recess times!
Club will begin on Monday, September 18 and will continue until the snow falls this winter (roughly around Thanksgiving) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during lunch recess times. This is an activity that aligns with the district belonging, access, and equity efforts that provide opportunities to all students!
To make this club possible to all 1st through 4th grade students, I am in need of parent volunteers. As a mileage club volunteer, you would be responsible for helping students find their cards, punch cards as students complete laps, hand out toe token prizes, and create new cards for students. I can take up to 5 volunteers per session per day (potential total of 10 per day). If you are interested in being a volunteer, you will need to do the following:
1. Complete the online Northview Volunteer Form found here:
If you have already filled out a volunteer form this 23-24 school year then you do not need to fill out another one. We just need one once a school year.
2. Send an email to hborgman@nvps.net to let me know you are interested in being a mileage club volunteer and have completed the online volunteer form.
3. Sign up for your available dates and times using the Sign Up Genuis found here:
This club isn't possible without your support! If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me using my email listed above under step 2.
Thank you so much! GO WILDCATS!

Items will be donated on Friday, November 17th.
Nurse's Corner
Parents & Guardians
We tend to see more lice cases during the colder months.
Head lice has been reported to the school by one or more parents.
It is your responsibility to check your child for head lice.
Please talk to your children about not sharing hats, combs, brushes, hairclips, etc.
Parents can prevent head lice by combing and checking their child’s hair for nits daily.
Laundry and vacuum your home and car if you have found live lice or nits in your child’s hair.
Never treat it unless there is definite evidence of head lice.
Students should stay home from school if they have a fever (temperature above 100.4 F) by any method and a change in behavior or other signs and symptoms (such as a sore throat, rash, vomiting or diarrhea). Students may return to school when fever-free for 24 hours without fever reducing medications.
