Dear Parents and Carers,
I think this week has been the most testing of the pandemic so far and as you are aware we do have rising cases of Covid across school. I have been in very regular contact with Public Health England and the local authority and we are following their advice at every step. From today (Friday), adults have reverted to wearing masks in communal areas in school and all our assemblies have gone back online for at least the next two weeks. Children are still able to play outside together and parents do not need to wear masks on drop off or collection.
It is, of course, so important that parents continue to monitor their children for signs of illness and if they do become poorly, that you take them for a test and report the result to school.
Children are expected to be in school unless they have tested positive or have symptoms and are waiting for results of a test and school work can only be sent home in these circumstances. PHE have made it very clear that a class will only be closed in very exceptional circumstances.
I do understand that many families have a range of different circumstances, pressures and vulnerabilities at home that may cause them to be anxious about sending their child to school, but as a school we have to follow the rules laid down by the government and DfE around attendance and remote learning however counterintuitive they may sometimes appear. Please do contact me if you require any clarification.
On a more positive note, key stage two enjoyed a fabulous singing workshop this week led by lecturers from Leeds College of Music. I was amazed at the courage and clarity of the soloists but the whole key stage did a wonderful performance for staff at the end of the day.
Our after school activities started this week and again it was great to see how many children were involved across the week.
Have a lovely weekend,

We are thrilled to share the news that Kirk Fenton has received the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) this week. This award follows a year of dedicated staff working to improve teaching and learning in science across the whole school. Science is now an area of strength and enjoyed by children with our 'hands-on' scientific enquiry approach. Feedback on our submission reflects the positive changes and great path ahead for science:
'PSQM seems to have been a catalyst for moving science forward in the school. From the inception of the vision and science principles science has started to flourish. The science leader has been passionate about transforming science teaching and learning by developing their expertise and that of the teachers. Children have clearly embraced the principles and are enthusiastically engaging with ‘hands-on’ investigations. Science is now permeating across the whole curriculum. There are some great next steps so science should continue to go from strength to strength.'

The Friends of Kirk Fenton charity (PTA) set up an Extraordinary General Meeting on 14 September 2021. As a previous committee of 4 people, a minimum of 8 people needed to attend the EGM for the meeting to proceed and for a new committee to form. Sadly the meeting wasn’t able to go ahead as there was not enough attendance so no new committee was able to be elected.
As a result Friends of Kirk Fenton will cease to exist in 21 days time the 11th of October and the charity status and accounts will be closed down before the end of November 2021.
As previously stated three of the current committee members are unable to carry on with the roles as committee members. Should any parents wish to take over the running of the friends charity they would need to arrange another Meeting (EGM) by contacting friends@kf.starmat.uk with a willingness to take on the role of Chair, Treasurer or Secretary (1 person per role, therefore at least 3 people in total). The current committee would support and help in anyway possible a newly formed committee. Please feel free to contact us for anymore information on what would be involved in being a committee member. North Yorkshire Music Service
Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s)
We are anticipating that all* music lessons should be possible in school premises on a face to face basis from September 2021 in line with Government recommendations. Should a school close as a result of a Covid19 outbreak, or are still operating Bubbles meaning that Face to Face lessons are not possible, we will move to online lessons, if possible, via Teams.
Instrumental lesson will commence week commencing 13th September 2021.
* Unless arrangements have been made with you direct to continue lessons online
Attached are the revised tuition and Music Centre fees applicable from September as well as remissions; details of tuition dates; and a reminder of the notice period to stop lessons.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any queries.;
