October Newsletter
Rabbit Creek Elementary
Principal Update:
Dear Rabbit Creek Families,
Many of you have noticed the snow creeping down the Chugach Range. As we prepare for the winter months and look forward to the winter activities that Alaska has to offer, we will be preparing for our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences. Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on October 25th and 26th. This time has been set aside so that your child’s teacher can share your child’s academic progress, goals and concerns, and you will have time to see your child’s work. Your participation is important in this process, as we are wanting to establish a partnership in educating your child! Our conference scheduler will open on October 10th, in which we will share more information and details on how to sign your student up for their conference time.
Our Rabbit Creek PTA has provided a newsletter, but would like to encourage you to be a member! Joining our PTA allows the association to hear your input and ideas on upcoming events that Rabbit Creek has to offer to your children. Our PTA member drive ends on October 27th.
Jog-a-Thon update: WOW! Way to go Rabbit Creek Community. We have earned over $15,000 so far towards our $20,000 goal. Please remind your child to turn in their Jog-a-Thon pledge envelopes by the end of Friday, October 5th to be eligible for prizes. Please make sure your child includes ALL donation on these envelopes even if they're online. This is how our PTA will track your child’s pledges and allocates prizes.

LifeTouch photo Update: Life Touch has decided to send all students a class photo, due to some communication issues with the class photo flyer. We apologize for any confusion or inconveniences.
ALICE DRILL: Rabbit Creek participated in an evacuation ALICE Drill on Thursday, September 28th around 10:00. All students did an excellent job getting to their rally point and returning back to the school safely. We will be conducting other ALICE drills in addition to our evacuation drills quarterly. I will send a notification two weeks prior to our drill date as we move forward. For more information on our ASD districtwide ALICE drills, please go to our Security and Emergency Management website at: https://www.asdk12.org/Page/19758

6th Grade Moving to Middle School:
ASD is in the process of preparing for our 6th graders (current 5th graders) to transition to the middle school level. Last February, the School Board approved a two-year transition plan of remaining 6th graders at neighborhood elementary schools to comprehensive middle schools. Our Moving to Middle School project is one of many new projects being launched this year and next year. As you continue to support our amazing students this school year, this new web page will be the best resource to help you support them for next year’s big move to middle school. We will be updating it throughout the year as planning continues.
We are all looking forward to seeing all of our Rabbit Creek families during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Finally, if you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact us at (907) 742-5700.
With Great Appreciation,
Ashley Bais
Principal

Battle of the Books
Battle Of The Books is a voluntary AkASL reading program that is endorsed by the Anchorage School District. Students in grades 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 read specific titles and answer questions about the books. "Battles" are held at the school, district, and state levels.
Students who wish to compete can read and discuss the books, quiz each other on the contents, and then compete in teams of not more than four students to correctly answer questions based on the books. Questions always begin with the words "in which book..." and the answer is a title/author from the list. Teams participate at the school level, and the Frontier Charter winners will be able to compete at the ASD Tournament(s).
Permission Slips due Friday, October 5th by the end of the school day. Please ask the front office if your student is interested in Battle of the Books!
