Nixon Elementary Weekly Update

Needed Items for Our Clinic:

Did you know our clinic not only provides support for children when they are ill, take medication lose a tooth, or even simple bumps and cuts, but they also support children who might need a change of clothing for one reason or another. Many of our lent out clothing items have not been returned over the years, and now our supplies are dwindling, specifically pants! If you have gently used pants you'd like to donate to our clinic, please drop them off at the front office or send them up to school with your child. We always appreciate donations and will put all items to good use. Have questions? Feel free to call Ms. Alicia in the clinic for more information (319-558-2188).

Cold Weather Gear:

Don't forget to send your learners with their winter gear! We also recommend you write their names and/or initials on the tags of the items in case they are left behind or "lost". The Nixon Weather Guide (above) is to assist you in making decisions about what type of clothing/coats to send your children with each day. I hope this tool is helpful!

Keep Collecting Hy Vee Receipts:

We had a big push for receipts during the first semester, and we're planning another fun competition during the second semester, too! During our first competition, our school raised over $450 for our Nixon PTA. That money, combined with our next set of receipts, will be spent on items for classrooms, field trips, celebrations, and so much more! Be sure to keep saving those Hy Vee Receipts and send them to school with your children (now, or during the big competition!).

Important Dates: We have several important days coming up, so be sure to mark these on your calendar:

• February 5: No School
  
• February 6: Nixon Night at Panera (See flyer below)
• February 12: Nixon PTA Meeting (Nixon Library or online: meet.google.com/wav-cutd-hft)
• February 14: Friendship Parties (afternoon parties)
• February 19 & 21: Conferences
• February 26: No School

This week Friday, our Nixon community will be celebrating all of the hard work and dedication of our learners and staff during a School Wide Celebration Assembly. During this assembly we will recognize learners who have made growth on our various assessments and celebrate our school wide proficiency on our midyear FAST Assessment.

We are excited to showcase all of the hard work from this first semester and will Live Stream the event on our Nixon Facebook Page for those who would like to watch! In next week's newsletter, I'll share out all of the amazing data we are celebrating with our learners and staff! Stay tuned!

• Box Tops for Education- hopefully you have the app downloaded. And every time you shop (any store) just get on the app, and submit your receipt (you will take a picture of your receipt within the app or there is a way to submit digital receipts now as well). And if you purchase any "box top" items it will credit us, just make sure to connect to Nixon Elementary in Hiawatha! Just a heads up to try and scan those receipts right at purchase. You do always have to have the date showing when you scan the receipt, and it HAS to be done within 2 weeks of purchase date. Each box top is worth 10 cents!
• There are some GREAT bonus offers right now in the app! So don't forget to check those out!
• 40 bonus plus a doubling bonus when you buy 4 box top products in one transaction at Target (between now and Feb 4th)
• 20 bonus box tops at Sam's Club when you buy 2 participating products in a single transaction through the month of January
• 50 bonus box tops at HyVee when you buy any 5 participating products in a single transaction through the month of January
• 20 bonus box tops at Walmart when you buy any 2 participating products in a single transaction between now and February 14th.
• There's a variety of smaller bonuses as well.
