Ferndale Middle Weekly Update
August 15 - August 19

Week of September 5 - September 9
From the Desk of Our Proud Principal
Good evening, Trojan family!
Your proud principal, Mrs. Kinard, here with your weekly updates and announcements.
As a reminder, tomorrow is Labor Day, Monday, September 5th, and there will be no school for students.
Your students have continued to learn new information in Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies, and our staff will be working to review key ideas throughout the year where your students' evaluations reveal they need further support. We will continue to conduct weekly/biweekly content check-ins to ensure that your students understand, learn, and master the material required for success. IXL, an online program created to help students practice concepts and skills, will be introduced to our students over the next two weeks. We feel that more practice will only help your learners succeed.
Safety
As a district and a school, we are taking every measure to assure our students' continued safety. Here's what you can do:
Please keep your student at home if they are ill. Canvas assignments will be updated by our teachers. Students who have COVID-19 symptoms should stay at home and undergo a COVID-19 test on day five.
If you think or confirm that your student has COVID-19, please notify the school immediately by calling 336-819-2855 or emailing Ms. Pierce, our data manager.
IMPORTANT - 7TH GRADE IMMUNIZATIONS
Rising 7th Grade Immunization Requirement
Seventh-graders are required by state law to get Tdap and MCV vaccines. We need proof of the Tdap and MCV shots for every 7th grader. If they don’t get the vaccine and show documentation by September 14th, schools are required by law to suspend them until proof of vaccination is provided.
2022 - 2023 FMS Administrative Team
Each member of our administrative team is responsible for supporting a specific grade level.
- Ms. Wilson - 6th Grade Administrator
- Mr. Russell - 7th Grade Administrator
- Mr. Garnett - 8th Grade Administrator
Ms. Kinard - FMS Building Principal

We are preparing our students for greatness, starting with academics, a positive attitude, and appropriate behavior as described in the GCS Code of Conduct and the FMS Student Handbook.
This year, GCS is going digital with its student handbook. The handbook is located online at www.gcsnc.com under Quick Links. It is also on our school's webpage under the student tab.
