Principal's Message
Campo families,
We hope everyone enjoyed the long 4 day weekend with family and friends. I continue to be impressed by our students dedication and hard work this school year. Many students that are involved in extra-curriculars and/or work are also taking advanced placement courses and have been showing up on the weekends or after school hours to take practice AP exams. Just Friday alone we had over 70 students show up to take a practice AP Calculus exam. Today was a shortened day to allow our entire Junior class the opportunity to take the ACT for free. Over 90% of our Junior class was present today and completed their ACT.
The next eight weeks are busy and are going to fly by quickly. We are proud of our students that continue to show up, study, and give their best in and out of the classroom modeling The Campo Way.

Our counseling department has come up with our very own Virtual Calming Room. With so much of our learning going virtual this year, it was important we came up with a virtual strategy to help our students relax and regain their focus so they can be more successful in their classes-- no matter whether they took their classes online or in person.
It is our hope that students can add this platform to their toolbox as a way to regulate their emotions and to get them out of the “stuck” feeling they might find themselves in. There are different types of calming activities on this page for students to choose from. There is a way for students to monitor what activity works best for them. Different strategies work for different people. The important thing is that they are willing to find ways to lead a calmer, more focused and happier life. The virtual format should allow students to use this whether they are experiencing anxiety, depression, scattered thoughts, etc. in their different surroundings- not just in class. They can try using it at home, during a study break, at lunch, before a unit test, to help them fall asleep, before the big game, etc.- pretty much anywhere they might get anxious or nervous. They can access it on their phone as well as their Chromebook.
This is just one tool they can use- it is not to replace therapy. If what they are feeling is chronic or physically debilitating, please seek professional help from a medical or mental health professional. If anyone is feeling like hurting themself, they should get help immediately. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-273-8255.

NHS
Welcome New Members for 2021-2022
NHS is happy to announce our newly accepted members for the 2021-2022 school year.
To be accepted into the program is an arduous feat as each member must demonstrate the core values of the National Honor Society: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Please congratulate these individuals for their well-deserved accomplishment.
We will be inducting our new members in an in-person event on April 6 at 2:40PM in the auditorium. All the new members will receive their official welcoming into the organization with family!
Additionally, if you have been accepted into NHS but have not completed the Induction Ceremony Acknowledgement form, please do so by April 6th. If you have been accepted but do not have the form please see Mrs. Stea in Room 527 or reference your acceptance email.
Campo Verde NHS Service Has Gone to the Dogs!
For our fourth quarter service project, NHS members will be making handcrafted blankets for local animal shelters on April 13th in the cafeteria starting at 2:30pm. At this event, we will be holding a donation drive for animals in need and will be accepting all cat and dog related donations e.g. cat/dog food, treats, toys etc. This will be our largest service project of the year and will be a great end for a successful year of service.

SECURING VALUABLES IN THE BOYS / GIRLS PE LOCKER ROOM: In order to keep our locker rooms as sanitized as possible this year, we are asking all of our students to take their PE clothes home daily and wash them and bring them back the next day. However, students have access to large locker areas so that they can secure all valuables and lock the locker. We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE all of our students to NOT leave their valuables unlocked during class. Questions, please feel free to contact Coach Cornell or your student's PE teacher.
LUNCHTIME INTRAMURALS:
Join us for OPEN GYM intramurals in the gym (or outside) during both lunches. Come be active, have fun and enjoy being healthy!
AFTER SCHOOL WEIGHTS:
Join us in our weight room for after school weights. Come dressed ready to strength train and work hard on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 2:20-3:15pm. Questions, please see Coach Bishop or Coach Cornell.
"NUTRITION" FOR ATHLETES:
-Eat 5-6 times per day
-Think of it as "Fueling" your muscles, not just eating
-Breakfast is critical every day.
-Eat a healthy snack during the mid-moring, mid-afternoon, evenings.
-Include plenty of fruits & vegetables and lean sources of protein.
-Eat "Clean" or healthy during the week and then have a few "Cheats" on the weekends (Pizza, sweets, etc).
*Note: Please see the sample menu for examples of healthy types of foods for athletes.
7 Tips to Improve Mindfulness
1. Meditate. Taking even just 5 minutes to sit quietly and follow your breath can help you feel more conscious and connected for the rest of your day.
2. Focus On One Thing At A Time. Studies have found that tasks take 50% longer with 50% more errors when multi-tasking, so consider “uni-tasking”, with breaks in between, whenever possible.
3. Slow Down. Savor the process, whether it’s writing a report, drinking a cup of tea, or cleaning out closets. Deliberate and thoughtful attention to daily actions promotes healthy focus and can keep you from feeling overwhelmed.
4. Eat Mindfully. Eating your meal without the TV, computer or paper in front of you, where you can truly taste and enjoy what you’re eating, is good, not only for your body, but for your soul as well.
5. Keep Phone and Computer Time In Check. With all of the media at our fingertips, we can easily be on information overload. Set boundaries for screen time – with designated times for social networking (even set an alarm) – and do your best to keep mobile devices out of reach at bedtime.
6. Move. Whether it’s walking, practicing yoga, or just stretching at your desk, become aware of your body’s sensations by moving.
7. Spend Time In Nature. Take walks through a park, the woods, mountain trails or by the beach – wherever you can be outside. Getting outdoors is good for body, mind and spirit, and keeps you in the present.

Library Updates

One of the displays up in the library features biographies of successful women. The display details information about Zora Neale Hurston, Kate Spade, Marie Curie and Ella Fitzgerald including portraits, information on their contributions, famous quotes and QR codes to allow students to delve deeper into finding information. Students will also find books on those four women and many more on the display. We hope it will inspire them!
