Principal's Message 📝
Thank you to our parents, teachers and students for the productive and supportive conversations you have been having during conference week. I look forward to seeing our students continually grow, and celebrating their successes with you through the fall and rest of the school year. Please remember to reach out to your child's teacher if you ever have concerns along with way.
PTA Needs Our Help!
Our PTA is looking to fill a few Executive Board Positions - Executive VP, VP of Ways & Means, and a Financial Reviewer. These positions must be filled to ensure our PTA is equipped to continue operating and funding key programs at Murwood. Not sure what the PTA does? Click here for a high-level overview. Reach out to murwoodelementarypta@gmail.com with any questions and/or to let the PTA know you are interested in serving in one of the open roles.
Community Service Day!
Donation bins will be at the front of the school starting this Friday, 10/6. Please send non-perishable food items through next Friday (10/13). If each of our students brings at least one item we can make a big impact!

📚 Scholastic Book Fair happening October 16th-21st!
Just two weeks until our annual Scholastic Book Fair happening October 16th-21st! In order for this event to run smoothly, we will need the help of parent volunteers. Please sign up where you're able and know that your volunteering efforts are greatly appreciated! A portion of book fair sales will be given directly to the library to buy new books. Happy Reading!
Notes From the Office
Traffic Reminders
To ensure you and your student’s safety when walking, please use sidewalks and crosswalks and avoid walking through the parking lot.
Students should always exit their vehicles on the right side (yellow curb).
Please be aware of vehicle speed both when entering and exiting the school.
Never leave your car unattended in the drop-off/pick-up lane or in the driveway entrance. This can cause a traffic back-up. If you need to walk your child in, please park in an appropriate (non staff) space.
Please remember to pull as far forward as you can so that we can maximize the number of cars being able to unload/pick-up students.
Early Drop-Offs
We have seen an increase in the number of students being dropped off too early in the mornings. As a reminder, students should not be dropped off any earlier than 7:55am (8:40am on Wednesdays) as there is no supervision prior to these times. Students having breakfast may be dropped off at 7:45am (Wednesdays at 8:30am)
Enjoy the amazing Fall weather! 🍁

CAMPUS AND GUN SAFETY EVENT: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11, 7-8:30PM
All Walnut Creek parents with students in grades K-12 are invited to join an important
presentation and panel discussion on campus and gun safety on Wednesday, October 11,
from 7-8:30pm in the Las Lomas High School Theater.
We will hear from Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Silva, Police Chief Jamie Knox, AUHSD
Superintendent John Nickerson, WCSD Superintendent Marie Morgan, WCSD Director of
Operations/Safety Committee Ruben Fernandez, and Las Lomas Principal Heather Thorner
about our city’s work to keep students and families safe from gun violence. Parents will learn
how they can stay informed and do their part to keep our community safe.
Murwood Food Drive
Donation bins will be at the front of the school starting this Friday, 10/6. Please send non-perishable food items through next Friday (10/13). If each of our students brings at least one item we can make a big impact!
Fall Festival - Volunteers Needed
This is Murwood’s biggest family event of the year! There will be food, entertainment, games, and lots of treats. We need lots of volunteers in small roles to make this event a success. Please click here to see how you can help!
Auction Survey
We received a lot of feedback from families that our families do want an in-person auction; however, no one has volunteered to lead the charge. If you haven’t yet, please fill out this very brief survey to share your preferences for this year’s auction and to let us know in which ways you are able to help.
WCEF’s 4th annual readathon is over but it’s not too late to donate!
We’re still tallying the totals from our 4th annual Read-a-thon but this year is shaping up to be the most successful Read-a-thons yet! That means more funds going toward YOUR child’s education in the form of electives at WCI, specialist salaries, and so much more. Thank you to all the students who logged hours and got creative with fundraising, the parents who generously supported their efforts, and the teachers and staff who so enthusiastically encouraged their students!
Didn’t get a chance to donate? It’s not too late - you can still donate until October 6 here.
Fundraising Update
Thanks to our amazing donors, every month we get closer to our $1.5M goal! As of September 30, WCEF has raised over $645,000 - 43% of our goal! Key programs like TK-5 science lab, electives such as World Languages at WCI and Tice, and the Wellness Center at Las Lomas are available to our students because of you. Thank you to all who have given! If you haven’t donated yet, there is still time. Donate today. Work for a company that will match your donation? To learn more about matching, click here.
