OGS Virtual 5K
Get ready to lace up your sneakers, enjoy some fresh air and get some steps in all for a GREAT cause! Whether you are an Eagle@School or an Eagle@Home we can all come together at a virtual starting line. Participants of all abilities can choose to run, jog or walk at any point the weekend of October 23-25 on a 5k course of their choosing (even on a treadmill!). The race is open to all members of our community including students, teachers, staff, parents, extended family, neighbors and dogs! Watch the OG News and e-mail next week for registration information.
We do need volunteers for this event to help sort race shirts and medals and to distribute “race packets” in mid-October. Volunteer jobs will adhere to all physical-distancing recommendations. Please sign up to help with this event here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090E45ABA92DA1FB6-ogsvirtual

Caution Regarding Scam Emails
The PTO has unfortunately experienced recent issues with scam emails being sent to OGS families requesting a transfer of funds or purchase of gift cards. The email will appear “from” the OGS PTO or a PTO Executive Board Member. However, the return email address is different. Please do not respond. All fundraising through the PTO is done through a dedicated event or program. Individualized emails requesting funds will never be sent. Please email the pto@ogschool.org with any questions.
Oak Grove School Education Foundation
Grandparents are some of the most important people in our children's lives. In 1977, Senator Randolph, with the help of other senators, introduced a joint resolution to the senate requesting the president to “issue annually a proclamation designating the first Sunday of September after Labor Day of each year as ‘National Grandparents’ Day’.” Congress passed the legislation, proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparent’s Day. On August 3, 1978, Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation, and the day was finally celebrated the following year.
Over the last six months, many Oak Grove grandparents have been unsung heroes, helping our busy OGS parents as our children became remote students overnight. With the start of the 2020/2021 school year, many grandparents are stepping in to help with remote learning as parents return to the office to work. Yet many of our grandparents continue to remain in their homes with limited personal time with friends and loved ones due to COVID-19. Sunday, September 13th is Grandparents Day - please remember to reach out to your Grandparents on this special day to remind them how important they are in your life. Throughout the school year, the OGSEF plans to engage with our Eagles’ grandparents. So we please ask you to ask your child’s grandparents to follow the Facebook pages for Oak Grove School (https://www.facebook.com/OakGroveSchool68) and the Oak Grove School Education Foundation (https://www.facebook.com/ogsfoundation/) to keep up to date on important OGSEF news and fundraising efforts.
Curriculum Corner
If you did not have a chance to read the email that was sent out Friday evening, you may have missed the good news! While there was a learning curve to assess our students at home last Wednesday, overall we had a 98% completion rate. Well done! As we begin to look at the data, we will reach out to you if your child needs to start or finish an assessment. The goal is to have all assessments completed by the end of this week. If you would like to give feedback about how the first round went, here is a quick survey to help us make adjustments for the winter assessment window.
Thank you!
