Tardy and Cell Phone Policies
Tardies
Students who are tardy to class will receive three warnings per block. A student is tardy to class if he or she arrives to the class after the tardy bell. A parent will be contacted by the classroom teacher after the third tardy. After the three warnings are used, if a student is tardy to class, an office referral will be made to each subsequent tardy.
Five unexcused tardies will result in one (1) absence. The teacher will record this absence as an “Absence by Tardy.” Each time an “Absence by Tardy” occurs, the absence will count in the eight (8) allowed absences. If a student arrives to class more than 10 minutes after the tardy bell without an excused note, the student will receive an unexcused tardy AND a discipline referral for skipping class.
Cell Phones
First Offense – The student will be provided a warning by the classroom teacher.
Second Offense – The device will be confiscated and turned into the AP Office; student may pick up the device at the end of the school day.
Third Offense – The device will be confiscated and turned into the AP Office; parent is notified and may pick up the device at the end of the school day.
All Others – ISS/OSS; Parent is notified and they may pick up the device at the end of the day.
Refusal of a student to abide by school board policy JFC-R will result in OSS.
Teachers reserve the right to collect all electronic devices before a quiz or test.
In the event of a crisis at school, students will have access to their personal devices. In the event of a crisis at home, parents are asked to contact the school’s main office to reach their child.
Veterans Day
In honor of Veterans Day, Lord Botetourt High School would like to honor our area Veterans. Any Veteran that is a LBHS alumni or relative of any LBHS students or faculty is encouraged to bring, drop off, or send an 8x10 or smaller photo of yourself (in uniform or not) with your name and military branch on the back to be displayed in honor of your service by Monday, November 6th. If you would like your photo returned, please mark a contact name of a current student or a return address on the back as well. If you submitted your picture last year, we have a copy on file, and you do not need to resubmit it this year. If you have any questions, please contact Julie Burton at jburton@bcps.k12.va.us or (540)992-1261.
NHS Canned Food Drive
NHS is planning a schoolwide food drive to stock up the Botetourt Food Pantry for the holidays.
