Parent Update
October 14, 2021
Dear Parents,
October is a busy month at St. Dorothy! Please scroll all the way to the bottom of our newsletter to see all of the excitement.
Our first ever Hispanic Heritage assembly will be taking place on Friday, featuring work that students have been doing since September 15th. Unfortunately, Grandparents Day, which was scheduled for October 22, has been postponed. It will remain a minimum day so please plan on picking up your student at noon.
Red Ribbon Week begins October 25th and our Student Council is hosting a Cancer Awareness Day on October 21st. Students will be allowed to wear pink with uniform bottoms. A $2 donation is requested and will be given to a cancer foundation.
We will be celebrating Halloween on Friday, October 29th. Our 8th grade will be hosting their Carnival (information below) during school hours. The Parish is hosting the Halloween Drive Thru in the evening (see information below). It is a minimum day (noon dismissal) and there will be no day care that day. Please plan accordingly.
If your child is absent, please call or email to let us know the reason. We need to know what the symptoms are if they are sick. Thank you for your help with this. We have created a Covid section with information below.
Remember to wash your hands and wear your masks. Vaccinations are recommended and protect everyone.
God Bless,
Mrs. Ferguson

Allergy Aware School
We would ask that all families refrain from sending any tree nut or ground nut products to school. Some of our students are highly sensitive to both.
There are many types of allergies that we are aware of in our student population. To maintain a safe environment, we are also asking that any treats sent in for special events must be store bought and all ingredients must be clearly labeled.
We want to thank you for your consideration in the health and well being of our Bruins.
DID YOU KNOW? ONGOING REsources for parents
Did you know? October 16-17 || Escalating red flags in an adult’s behavior
In most abuse cases, the victim knows the offender. Offenders go to great lengths to ensure that they are not strangers, often spending months or even years hiding in plain sight. Parents should be aware of a few red flags that range from obvious to subtle, and usually indicate a more sinister relationship at work between an offender and potential victims. Some obvious signs include telling children dirty jokes or showing them pornography. More subtle signs could be an adult who wrestles or tickles often, wants to be alone with children, gives gifts frequently, or encourages children to keep secrets. For more red flags, request a copy of the VIRTUS® article “The Rationale of Warning Signs” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know.
