Muckleshoot Tribal Schools is hiring an Outdoor Curriculum Developer that will work closely with our teachers and instructional coaches to move students well-beyond the walls of the classroom. The ideal candidate will have curriculum writing experience with place-based learning. We’ve had a few great interviews, but the candidates were unable to relocate to the area at the last minute. We want to include as many Indigenous graduates as possible for our 16th annual Rite of Passage Graduation Ceremony at North Seattle College Sunday June 25th, 2023 5:00pm. Keynote Roxanne White (Nez Perce) and Ryan Sense-Wilson (Oglala) as Master of Ceremony, Student Speakers, Awards, Essay Contests, Drum group 206, Filipino catering, gifts, entertainment, and a truly wonderful event for family and community.

We are also excited to share that the fiber studio will be home to a new Evergreen certificate entitled Sheep to Shawl https://www.evergreen.edu/certificates/fiber-arts-sheep-shawl which will include 4 credit courses, one Fall, Winter and Spring for a total of 12 credits that includes fiber preparation, dyeing, and finally weaving on a Coast Salish Loom. This course is taught by Dr. Susan Pavel. It's open to anyone who is interested in the entire process of weaving from start to finish. Participants who complete the work will earn an academic certificate.

Susan has been teaching weaving classes the studio. This is one of the first certificate programs in interdisciplinary arts.

Speaking of weaving, the PNW Alutiiq Culture Camp has a very busy few months ahead, starting with a 3 Friday Alutiiq Weaving workshop with Ingrid Hansen. Artists who have experience with Indigenous weaving styles are encouraged to apply. Space is limited to 10 people.

Alutiiq Weaving Workshop for our Alutiiq Community
Calling all Alutiiq community members! Join us for a series of immersive Alutiiq Weaving Sessions taught by the talented Ingrid Hansen. Explore the art of Alutiiq basket weaving using Irish waxed linen and learn to create beautiful, traditional designs. This is an incredible opportunity to connect with our Alutiiq culture and expand our weaving skills together.
Dates: June 23, June 30, and July 7, 2023 (Fridays)
Time: 10am-2:30pm (4 1/2 hours per session)
Highlights:
In-depth instruction by Ingrid Hansen, an experienced weaving expert.
Dive into Alutiiq basket weaving techniques.
Suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced weavers.
Limited to 10 participants per session, ensuring a personalized experience.

We still have 4 spots to fill in the Journeys in Creativity Summer Youth Art-Making workshop which takes place August 14-19, 2023. Students will live on campus and learn printmaking techniques with faculty member Alex McCarty, who is Makah. Open to students ages 15-18 you can e-mail longhouse@evergreen.edu for a one page application. Students will create an original print edition. We also have creative activities planned including making hand drums, using Northwest botanicals to make salves and cyanotype photography prints. All housing, meals and art supplies provided.

The Summer Native Art Fair will be June 24, 2023 in the House of Welcome-Longhouse. Over 40 artists representing 15 different Tribes will be selling a wide variety of art work. You will be able to purchase Indian tacos, frybread, soups and desserts. We hope you can stop by.
