It was a great week to be great!
Week two!
Week two is officially under our belts, and now we get to bring on week three. Our first FULL week of school is when we'll catch glimpses of our basic procedures turning into routines. We'll also welcome families to Bates on Wednesday evening from 5:30-7pm for our annual Open House and Pot Luck Dinner. This is always a big hit! You'll receive a detailed agenda for the evening via Parent Square on Monday afternoon.
See this teacher on the right? That's Ms. Shannon. She's an inclusion specialists at Bates who rocked this awesome shirt last week that matches our new social/emotional campaign perfectly.
Social/Emotional Learning
Believe, Be You, Belong, at Bates!
It's happening. Our kids are starting to talk to us about how they know they belong at Bates! This week, we'll continue to talk about belonging and how it relates to our SEL theme, respecting others.
Social/emotional learning update from Ms. Amanda, student adjustment counselor
As referenced last week, we focused on some important social emotional “stuff” this week.
Each day on morning announcements we spoke about a different value (BELIEVE, BE YOU, BELONG…at Bates!) Classrooms were then prompted during morning meeting time, to go a little deeper with their own examples of how these values show up in our day to day lives.
It’s important to really dig into these ideas if we expect kids to truly embody them. Feel free to check in with your child to see what they remember unpacking in these morning discussions and how they can use believe, be you, belong outside the walls of Bates too!
Summer reading logs are due!
Families, please turn in summer reading logs to your student's homeroom teacher. The deadline is 9/15/23.
As planned, any student (all grades), who turns in a summer reading log, will be eligible to win a ride to school in a fire truck in the fall (one winner at each school)!
Homework
Please visit the Salem Public Schools webpage here for guidance on the district's homework policy.
