Friday Family Message
Thank you for your patience and support as we navigated record floods this week.
Our district boundaries have not seen this much widespread flooding in many years. While we are grateful to you, we know we could not have safely delivered students to and from school without our transportation team.
Our transportation professionals began their day well before daylight and personally drove the roads in our area and communicated with local officials to ensure our routes were safe and passable. Thank you to our drivers, mechanics, office staff, and student paraeducators — we appreciate your hard work and dedication to our community!
Also, thank you to our many community partners, including City of Stanwood, Snohomish County, Taylor Excavations, Lenz Enterprises, and North County Fire/EMS for their flood-prevention efforts.
Next week is our final full week of school before winter break. We look forward to a week of celebrations with our students and families. From concerts to gatherings and other special events, we hope you join us in as many events as you can.

- STUFF THE BUS — Our big yellow school buses will be parked at three area grocery stores on Saturday, Dec. 9, collecting canned goods and dry goods to donate to the local Stanwood Camano Food Bank. Community food drives like ours help make sure those children and their families get emergency food assistance when they need it. The buses will be at Camano IGA, Grocery Outlet, and QFC. Our buses will also collect cash donations and and checks made out to "Stanwood Camano Food Bank."
- CLAUS FOR A CAUSE — The Stanwood High School ASB is asking the community to donate clothing and pet supplies to help people in need. Claus for a Cause is taking place 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Stanwood High School Commons. The ASB is asking for pet supplies such as pet toys, leashes, and pet food, and clean clothing such as hoodies, shirts, pants, and towels. the items will be donated to N.O.A.H. Pet Shelter and Cocoon House homeless shelter. In addition, there will be fun, family friendly activities at Claus for a Cause such as felt tie-blanket making and holiday movies. This is an ASB event, not a district or school sponsored event.
- SANTA RUNS — Both North County Fire & EMS and Camano Island Fire & Rescue are hosting their annual Santa Run food drives. They'll be driving their fire engines throughout neighborhoods collecting nonperishable food items for the food bank. - COATS & MORE — If your child needs a warm coat this winter, or a holiday gift, the Stanwood-Camano Food Bank can help. Nearly any child aged 0-18 living in the Stanwood-Camano area is eligible to receive a new coat and a visit to their Christmas House shop. Warm Coats For Kids services run now through Dec. 21. Christmas House services operate from Dec. 5 to Dec. 21. Both programs operate from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
HOLIDAY MEALS — During three December regular services at the Stanwood-Camano Food Bank, each household will also receive a ticket for additional holiday meal items. The Christmas food distribution dates: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Dec. 13, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 16, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Dec. 20. The food bank is closed Dec. 25-Jan. 1.
The Stanwood-Camano School District follows the COVID-19 guidance for schools and child care from the Washington Department of Health.
We adhere to infectious disease prevention strategies as part of everyday operations, and we are prepared to implement additional disease prevention strategies if there is an outbreak of any respiratory illnesses, including flu and RSV.
The current emphasis is on students or staff staying home when sick. Please view our When to Stay Home webpage for more details about what symptoms to monitor. The webpage also includes the state Department of Health’s updated guidance on making decisions around COVID exposure and illness.
Additionally, each school building has masks and COVID tests available to anyone upon request.
Three members were sworn on to the Stanwood-Camano School Board during its regular board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
Superintendent Deborah Rumbaugh gave the oath of office to Miranda Evans for the District 3 seat, Betsy Foster for the District 4 seat, and Steve King for the District 5 (at-large) seat.
