Presentations/Reports
Steeby Elementary Building Report
- Christina Johnson started by discussing supplemental opportunities Steeby Elementary offers to their students, including W.I.N. time (What I Need). Due to the extra support, NWEA scores for reading and math increased during the winter testing. Steeby also offers a Peer-to-Peer program, which allows general education students to interact with level 2 students, allowing for friendships and support systems to be created. A tutoring program is up and running with the focus being on additional reading support before and/or after school. Ms. Johnson ended her presentation with a video of students and staff sharing why they love Steeby which included a look back at their year through pictures.
Committee Meeting Report - Joint Committee
- No comment made on the Joint Committee Meeting.
Committee Meeting Report - Safety and Security Committee
- Dan Cassini shared that they talked about traffic patterns. This conversation that was had with the city and will continue to be discussed.
Student Board Members Report
- Ava Makowski and Matthew Chubb shared that this week is take 2 of Coaches vs Cancer due to snow days the initial week. Student Council is planning on attending the state conference in a few week. NHS is traveling to the elementary buildings in March to read to students during reading month. Theater is having an upperclassmen 1 act show in early March. Robotics has their first competition coming up. Forensics is getting ready to go to their first competition. PALs is beginning to plan for Kindness Week, the date is still TBD. Girls Basketball is having an excellent season so far, with an 11-6 score. Wrestling just recently won conference and districts. Competitive cheer has districts this upcoming Friday.
Governance Team Good News
- Tim Reeves shared that Karla Heckathorn is the new transportation director, she officially joins the team on Wednesday, February 14th. He also recognized Officer Schaefer for helping with a medical emergency at an away basketball game. Becky Hohnke shared that she is officially hosting another foreign exchange student next school year. Norm Taylor shared his congratulations to the wrestling team on their recent accomplishments.

Administration Reports
Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations
- Leslie Wagner shared that we are right on track for the revenue vs actual report. Facilities has been working hard with shoveling and maintaining heating throughout all the buildings. Business Office has been working hard to transfer the on boarding process to a digital format.
Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Service
- Teresa Fulk shared that count day is this Wednesday, February 14th. She also highlighted that the district received the 23G grant, which will be used to cover all the summer learning opportunities, including the Kids Read Now program and high school credit recovery classes.

- Tim Reeves would like to thank everyone who was able to participate in the Dorr Elementary Blue Ribbon event which was held in early January. He also shared that the Gun Lake tribe utilized the HS facilities for their Big Bear Moon Round Dance, the event had great attendance including an increase in community participation. Mr. Reeves appreciated our nice feature in the Allegan County Newspaper about the community forum event. Mr. Reeves was also asked to be a judge for the City of Wayland's 'Between the Buns' Competition, he enjoyed being able to interact with community members and had fun tasting all the sandwiches.

Revised Board Operating Procedures
- No discussion
MASB Board of Directors Election - Region 6
- The vote is on February 26th, the board members has received information regarding who and what they need to vote on. The board will come to an agreement during their next work session.
2023-2024 General Fund Budget Revisions
- Leslie Wagner shared the highlights of the budget revisions including that are that we increasing the revenue vs expenditures. We are anticipating more funding from AAESA. Items that are leading to the budget change are an increase in wages and insurance costs, including retirement and FICA, and an increase in trash usage due to district wide free lunch.
2023-2024 Food Service Budget Revisions
- Leslie Wagner stated that they have decided to not adjust the current budget.
2023-2024 Student Activities Fund Budget Revisions
- This is the budget that holds the funding for student activities, all of this money is fundraised by the students for the students.
Middle School Stadium
- Tim Reeves shared that the bid package the board saw in January had a clerical error. The actual estimated cost is $24,000 higher then what was originally presented. There is nothing new to the package, the increased cost is simply due to a mistake on Triangle's part.

Board Topics
Jeff Koon would like to thank Christina Johnson for hosting the meeting. He especially enjoyed being able to see all the pictures.
Becky Hohnke loved how Steeby is incorporating Capturing Kids Hearts into an assembly each month.
Dan Cassini thanked Mrs. Winters for filling in for the meeting tonight. He also thanked Ms. Johnson for inviting us into the building.
Theresa Dobry shared that she enjoyed seeing the videos of kids from Steeby sharing why they loved their school.
The meeting went into closed session at 6:47pm.
