2022 Minnesota Student Survey
Our school district is asking students in grades 5, 8, 9, and 11 to participate in the 2022 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS). Federal law requires us to notify parents of this school activity. The MSS is conducted in schools across our state every three years.
Questions on the survey are about many topics relating to young people’s lives. The survey asks about how well school is going, future plans, out-of-school activities, physical and mental health, relationships, substance use and more. High school students are asked about sexual behavior. This useful information about their thoughts and behaviors helps communities and schools develop effective programs and provide better services.
Date(s) the Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) will be administered: The week of February 14-18
If you have questions about the survey, please contact: Tricia Johnson, 507-418-7510, tjohnson@triton.k12.mn.us
You have the right to review a copy of the survey. For details on how to do this, please contact: Tricia Johnson
This survey is anonymous. To prevent individuals or families from being identified, students do not provide their names, student identification numbers, or other personal information.
This survey is voluntary. You may choose to have your child not take the survey by completing and returning the form below to the school office. Students may also decline to take any part of the survey or the whole survey. They are informed of this option by staff.
If you do not want your child to take the Minnesota Student Survey, please return the form below to: Tricia Johnson, School Social Worker by Monday, February 7
Two Hour Late Starts
In the future we will run our Friday Flex schedule on the Fridays before the Monday 2 hr. late starts.

Wolf Ridge Update
The 9th and 10th grade Wolf Ridge trip has been officially rescheduled to March 4-7. We’re working on the re-registration process and would like to verify attendance of all 9th and 10th grade students. Families should have received an email a couple weeks ago; if you have not yet completed the short registration survey, please complete it HERE.
We would like to finalize numbers by the end of this week. Thanks to those that have already completed the survey; more information will be forthcoming as we gear up for a great adventure!
If you have questions, reach out to Kim Swanson (kswanson@triton.k12.mn.us).
Thanks!

Test Tips for Parent - Student Discussions
Practice at home - Item samplers provide examples of the types of questions that are on the test. These can be accessed at home and practiced. You can find item samplers for each grade on the PearsonAccess website. http://minnesota.pearsonaccessnext.com/ and click on preparing for testing. Online test tutorials are also available.
More information on the MCAs can be accessed on the Minnesota Department of Education Website. http://education.state.mn.us/MDE/fam/tests/.
Parents of 11th graders should have a conversation with their child and check-in to make sure they are signed up for the appropriate test. The majority of the students take the ACT, but taking the ASVAB is also an option.

December Profile of a Graduate Award Winners
The Triton Profile of a Graduate is our locally developed approach to what it means to be a graduate of Triton High School. We have incorporated many principles and competencies designed to help all students develop the skills necessary for success in college, in a career, and most importantly in life.
The Profile of a Graduate is designed around a community-engaged process to create a beacon for future educational strategic planning. It presents a clear visualization of priority goals for teaching and learning that can be easily communicated to students, parents, and staff to align collective efforts.
The students listed and pictured below were recognized for upholding and modeling our December Profile Theme of Critical Thinking.
7th Grade - Mya Matejcek
8th Grade - Abigail Akkerman
9th Grade - David Kenison
10th Grade - Alyvea Corley

Snow Days
Any additional snow days will be eLearning Days.
- Students should log into their Infinite Campus Portal to submit their attendance.
- Academic work will be posted to Schoology (THS) or Google Classroom (TMS) by 10:00 AM.
- Teachers will also post an online meeting to answer questions from 10 AM - 12 PM.
COVID Update
On December 27, the CDC announced it is updating its guidance on isolation and quarantine to include criteria for when shortened time periods can be applied. We have received approval from the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Education to apply these changes. These changes will be in effect and our Safe Learning Plan will be updated when we resume school on January 18.
Safe Learning Plan Changes
- Isolation and quarantines can end after 5 full days if you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and other symptoms have improved.
- It is important that if you are doing the new shortened quarantine to wear a well-fitting mask on days 6-10. Students who do not want to mask for days 6-10 are required to continue to isolate through day 10 and follow the previous guidance.
- Case rates on the District's Covid Dashboard will also reflect the active case rate in the last 5 days.
Congratulations to the TMS Cobras with Character!
2022-2023 THS Course Registration
High School Parents and Families,
I would like to provide an update on the course registration timeline for 2022-2023. Students have already been granted access to the new course registration guide. They can find these on their Class of 202X Schoology group page under Resources. Or the guide is also located on our website here: https://5il.co/rj2r
The course registration process is completed entirely at school. Students will have time in advisory over the next several weeks to both review their course options and register for classes. I will also meet with students in small groups or individually to ensure they understand what classes are available to them and what is required that they take in order to stay on track for graduation. I also encourage you to review the course registration guide with your student to help them in their planning process. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you,
Christi Runnells
