SHARK SHOUTOUTS
A big Shark Shout Out to Seniors Nicole and Victoria Peterson for their wonderful presentation to the Creative Writing II: Global Outlook class about Russian culture, language, literature, arts, and more. Their presentation had a little bit of everything: language study, food temptations, Matryoshka dolls, classical and folk music, and even famous Russian cartoon characters in action! Thank you also to their English teacher, Carolyn Barr, for permitting them to visit and enrich our class! -Ms. Lisa Forte-Doyle
Student writers win contest
Congratulations to our 8th grade English students who entered the Young Writer's fall mystery writing contest: Unsolved. Sixty-eight stories were accepted for publication, a record for Monomoy! Each of these students successfully created a mini-saga of 100 words or fewer, and these will be included in a book to be released in the spring. A copy will be available in our school library once they are published. We are proud of the efforts of all of our students to write with detail and precision.

Athletic Summaries: Week of 1/13
All through break the girls team continued working hard each day to prepare for our game against Nauset High School, who we ended up beating in overtime. After a week off, Girl’s Basketball was super excited to get right back into it on Monday at practice. We lost a close game against Barnstable on Tuesday night despite a really hard effort by the whole team, leaving our record 3-4. Our game Friday against DY was postponed so we will continue to work hard with practice the rest of the week preparing for a hard game next Tuesday against Cape Cod Academy. (Lucy Mawn, junior captain) BOYS BASKETBALL To start off winter break we faced a tough opponent in Mashpee. Both teams fought hard throughout the whole game but we ended up losing in a close finish. We had strong games from Finn Hyora and Jackson Rocco. Nauset was our next opponent on the schedule and we were excited. We dug ourselves into a hole in the first quarter being down 20+ points. At the end of the first quarter we gathered ourselves and started breaking down Nausets defense. The deficit slowly started to decrease due to us winning every quarter in point totals after the first quarter. We came as close as down 12 but fizzled out in the end. Everyone played hard and never gave up even while being blown out. We collected ourselves due to coach Dan’s fire and enthusiasm. Barnstable was our most recent game and we ended out with a win. The team had a slow start but the defense anchored us in the game. There was no star performance today due to the teamwork that was displayed. Everyone played as one and we fed off each other's energy. The game was close in the fourth quarter but a few clutch shots and free throws put us over the edge. (Dan Gould, senior captain) CHEER The cheer team is doing great! This season we have a huge team which we are hoping to take to competitions this year. Over the past couple of weeks, the team has been working hard to construct our new routine. We have been focusing on our pyramids and more complex stunts right now, which we will use at the competitions. (Sabrina Morand, senior captain) GIRLS HOCKEY Furies girls ice hockey did not have any games over winter break because of multiple Covid cases on our team and other teams. Instead, we spent the time doing conditioning and skills. The most recent game was 1/12/21 against Nantucket in which we beat them 9-3. Too many goals to keep track of, but from Monomoy both Gabriella Basset and Morgan Willis scored. (Eve Abboud, senior captain)
