Wiggin Street Parent Update

Better Together

Dear Wiggin Street Families,

It's been busy couple of weeks at Wiggin Street. I've included a great number of pictures in this Parent Update. Last week, we received a check from Tanger Outlets for a grant that was written for decodable books for our intervention classrooms. They also brought our teachers a gift basket along with Emergen-C vitamins for our staff.

We appreciate Dr. Allan Bazzoli coming to visit our 2nd grade students each year along with his son, Dr. Chris Bazzoli, who is a Wiggin Street Alum and works at Cleveland Clinic. They get a lesson on the human body and always enjoy dipping their hand in the paraffin wax.

This week we had the Global Day of Play and passed out Math-a-thon prizes. You can find a list of event dates in the Upcoming Events section.

Our teachers also spent time this week reviewing all of the middle of the year student data to make decisions on instruction and groupings for our students based on their specific needs. We are lucky to have such a wonderful group of caring teachers and staff that work hard each day to attend to our students needs.

Math-a-Thon Important Information

Math-a-Thon Prizes were passed out on Wednesday. Students that participated in the Math-a-thon have tickets to events based on the level of fundraising turned in. Check out the Upcoming Events for a list of event dates.

The first event takes place Monday in the gym with Instrument Makerspace!

Recyclables Needed for Math-a-thon Makerspace Reward

If you can save these items and send them to school by the end of February, we would appreciate it!

Paper towel rolls

TP rolls

Cereal or shoe boxes

Pop and water bottles or any plastic containers and caps

Coffee cans

If you have any spare items from the list below, we could use them too:)

Yarn or string

Paper plates

Balloons

Sand paper

Rubber bands

Wire hangers

Any other miscellaneous items that might be used to create music would be appreciated also!

Winter Weather

Please remember that students will go outside on days where the temperature with wind chill accounted for is 20°f and above. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Coats, hats, and gloves are necessary at this time of the year. Boots are required for playing in the snow. If you need assistance with winter outerwear for your child, please contact our school, and we will happily find warm clothes for them.

Inclement Weather Calamity Days

Also, we use ‘Instant Connect Alerts’ as our closings and delays notification system which is how you probably received this Parent Update. If not, please make sure you have signed up at Instant Connect portal.

Temperature and wind chill. Temperature and/or sustained wind chills at or below -10F during peak pick-up times for buses and walking times for students are given special consideration.

Lastly, if school is on a 2-hour delay, we will start school at 11:00 am with drop-off beginning at 10:40. Lunch will always be pizza on delay days, and no breakfast will be served.

Idle-free Zone

For pick up, please do not arrive until 3:30. There is no stopping, standing, or parking on E. Brooklyn St. allowed. Also, please reminder that our school is an Idle-free Zone. Protect our children and the community by turning off your engine.
