A Message From The Principal
Dear Christ the King School Families,
September has concluded so quickly, and the leaves are changing and falling! October will be here next week, and so many fun activities will be happening throughout the month! Although the weather has been quite brisk this week, an increase in temperatures is projected for next week. Thus, we won’t remove the a/c units or turn on the heat quite yet. :)
The school has been very active (as usual) this week, and I was able to actually witness and participate in a few of these activities. On Tuesday, toward the end of the day, I made a brief visit to Mrs. Calupa’s Kindergarten class, and students joyfully shared how they had learned that God gave us light and named it “day,” and He gave us night and stars as well. Well done, Kindergartners! On Wednesday, a bit after Holy Mass, Mr. Kellog’s 8th Grade Social Studies class provided a mock trial of the Boston Massacre. I was invited to be a presiding Justice over the case against Captain Thomas Preston (five counts of varying degrees), and after listening to Preston, the Prosecution, the Defense, and Samuel Drowne (eyewitness), the jury and I found Preston to be “guilty” on all charges (his sentence - hanging). I suggest people actually read through the historical account of the outcome of the trial because I am not a lawyer or a judge. :) Regardless, students definitely prepared for their roles, and any opportunity to practice speaking skills will only support student success. Awesome work, 8th graders! On Thursday, Mrs. Cootey’s 3rd grade class endeavored on a field trip to Mt. Philo - more information and pictures are forthcoming. The school endured its first fire drill on Thursday as well.
This upcoming four-day week will be busy - one example: Father will be offering Holy Mass on Wednesday morning at 8:30 am, and then he will be offering a blessing for the animals in the afternoon at 3:00 pm. We hope to see many people at both times. Additionally, my personal goals for this upcoming four-day week are to continue to visit classrooms, to be a part of the AfterSchool Program led by Ms. Lumbra, and to also “take in a game” or practice with the soccer team (supported by Mrs. Beste).
Please enjoy the many pictures (thanks to Mr. Hughes), and again, please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or issues.
In Christ,
Kelley Alderman

CKS UPDATED ILLNESS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
As we come into fall and winter, please review the updated CKS illness policy. We require all recommended vaccines and encourage all seasonal vaccines including the Flu and Covid 19 vaccines.
Please notify the CKS OFFICE of any absences or illnesses at cksoffice@cksvt.org or 802-862-6696.
- Students or faculty with a fever will be sent home. CKS considers a fever to be a temperature of 100.0 or higher.

- Students with 1 or more symptoms other than fever that might mimic flu, COVID or other respiratory issues will be seen by the CKS office.

SHADOW DAYS AT RICE MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL
New this year: Shadow Days at Rice will be a half day event, and families will be able to choose a morning or afternoon session. However, Shadow Days will not run all year, but will be held on (2) separate weeks: the first week will be November 13-17, 2023 and the second week will be February 12-16, 2024. Shadow days will be held on Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays, due to the block schedule. If a student would like to schedule a time to come to one of those days, please reach out to Stacy Bessette (www.rmhsvt.org or bessette@rmhsvtorg). Space will be limited, so reserve your spot early! We understand walking into a new school can be intimidating for some students, and we take great care to ensure each student feels welcome and at ease.
8TH GRADE BOTTLE AND CAN DRIVE
The 8th Grade class will have a Bottle Drive once every month as a fundraiser for their end of the year trip. If you could please bring in your bottles and cans on October 20th, the 8th Grader class will truly appreciate it! We will provide pick up dates for every month in the newsletter

LOG YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS
We have had a number of questions about volunteering opportunities and how to track them in RenWeb. Here is a list of potential opportunities and a link to the tutorial for entering your hours in RenWeb.
Volunteer Opportunities:
- Check out this link of volunteering opportunities: https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/6011690049/false#/invitation
- Chaperoning Field Trips - If you are going to drive students for field trips, you must complete VIRTUS and the attached form. You can count the completion of VIRTUS as one hour of volunteering.
- Classroom Helpers – Periodically, teachers may reach out to ask for help in their classrooms and this counts towards your hour’s requirement.
- Attend a PTO meeting
- Contribute in your own way! If you have an idea that isn’t listed above or in the link of opportunities, please reach out! We are always excited by the possibility of new partnerships and volunteering opportunities!

The greatest thing that parents can do for their children is to love each other. BUT...with the pressures of everyday life... it can be easy to slip into taking each other for granted and in doing so, diminish your ability to radiate God’s love in your relationship and to your children. Do you want to find an easier path?
The good news is we’ve got a more loving way to be with your spouse and your children. It starts with a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend and it’s happening right here! Now is the time! There’s no need to go away for the weekend, you can stay at home. It’s just about the two of you learning to be the
best, most loving and thriving couple you can be. Imagine giving that gift to each other AND to your kids! This experience is being offered at St. Monica’s/St. Michael’s, October 20 to 22.
Want more information? Check out www.WWME.org or call Gary & Lynn Root at (802) 456-8114. They’d be thrilled to tell you more about the Weekend.
