The 5th grade has been working hard on a STEAM project during the month of November. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. All 5th grade students were teamed up with members of the other 5th grade classrooms. As a team they were tasked with cooperatively researching, planning, and designing a Thanksgiving Day float similar to what you may have seen on the Macy's Day Parade in New York City, or the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade. These famous parades are both shown on TV - but all Beck students could watch the 5th Grade STEAM Parade - complete with the 'big guy in red' arriving at the end - live in the halls of Beck Elementary! Please watch video footage of the float and look for your favorite float.

Mrs. Ramirez had her 6th grade art students designed and painted a mural on the basketball half-court this fall. Pictured above are the students and their awesome design! Thank you 6th grade art students!

Your student will soon be visited by cartoonist, Duane M. Abel, creator of the comic strip ZED. Duane will be at your school presenting Draw Your Destiny. This program teaches children how to establish goals, learn to love reading, and the value of education. Duane’s comic strip, ZED has been endorsed by Comics in the Classroom and Curled Up With A Good Book as “a great way to introduce children to comics strips!”

Below is an order form that allows your child to bring ZED home! The books will arrive directly to your school and will be autographed by Duane! You can also see all of ZED’s books by visiting www.corkeycomics.com laugh at a time.
