TWHS Final Exam Exemption Policy
All students, 9th through 12th, are eligible for final exam exemptions in the Spring Semester. Students must meet the criteria and the discipline requirement listed below. Students must maintain an 85-100 class average for the semester (18-weeks). In addition, the following criteria apply as well:
- Students must meet the grade criteria listed above and the requirements listed below.
- A student granted a final exam exemption must still attend that class during the final exam period and must be present the entire duration of the final exam period to be considered exempt. Students who check out early during a final exam will forfeit the exemption, receive a grade of zero or incomplete for the exam and will need to schedule a makeup final exam. Failure to attend will result in a zero or an incomplete for that course.
- Any student that has served ISS, DAEP, or OSS while enrolled in a course during the semester of the final exam is not eligible for a final exam exemption for that course.
- To ensure that all students have the opportunity to complete their exams in a distraction-free environment, the attendance office will not be doing early checkouts during exam periods. Parents and students should plan accordingly so that students remain in their exam period the entire duration of the exam period.
STAAR END OF COURSE (EOC) TESTING
This notice concerns upcoming STAAR EOC tests in the spring of this school year. The state of Texas has determined that in the 2022-2023 school year, all STAAR EOC testing will move to an online platform. We are following the state’s initiative and will begin online testing this spring semester. Due to these changes, our testing procedures have changed. For your planning purposes, please review the following bullet points to understand how your child will be impacted with the transition to online testing.
General directions for testing days on both campuses:
· ONLY testing students will report to school at regular time on the testing days listed below--This is for senior campus only. ALL 9th grade students will report to the 9th grade campus on the testing dates below by 7:20.
· Any student attending the senior campus, regardless of grade level (10th-12th), who is NOT testing will have late arrival.
· All Ninth-grade campus students will report to the ninth grade campus on the dates below due to testing and altered shuttle schedules during the school day. More information will be provided closer to the testing date.
- April 5 - English I EOC administered on the 9th Grade Campus,
- April 7 - the senior campus will be administering the English II exam
- May 3 - Algebra 1 EOC (students that have already taken and passed the Algebra 1 EOC will participate in a Biology EOC review),
- May 4 - Biology EOC.
Specific directions for senior campus testing days:
· On April 7th: Any student enrolled in English 2 and/or needs to retest English 2 will report to school at regular time and review posters on the wall to locate their testing room.
· If your student is NOT enrolled in English 2 and/or does not need to retest, he/she will report to school at approximately 11:45. Exact times and locations will be announced closer to the testing date.
· On May 4th: Any student enrolled in US History or needs to retest US History will report to school at regular time and review posters on the wall to locate their testing room.
· If your student is NOT enrolled in US History and/or does not need to retest, he/she will report to school at approximately 11:00. Exact times and locations will be announced closer to the testing date
· Students who cannot find transportation for the late arrival time should report to the school cafeteria at regular time for a study hall. The use of phones and laptops will not be allowed in the cafeteria as they will interfere with WiFi access points needed for testing.
Preparation for the online exams
· Students can practice using the online platform at www.texasassessment.gov > students and families > practice test login > sign in as a guest user > grade level is EOC > choose a test to practice
Testing Dates
NINTH GRADE CAMPUS END-OF-COURSE ENGLISH 1 EXAM - APRIL 5, 2022
All freshmen will report to the Ninth Grade Campus by 7:20 am on Tuesday, April 5, to take the STAAR End-of-Course English 1 exam. The bell schedule for the day is listed below.
Because all freshmen will be reporting to the Ninth Grade Campus first thing in the morning, car riders should plan to arrive earlier than normal due to the increase in the volume of parents dropping off students. Remember also, that we open our back parking lot off Ashlane Way after buses depart in the morning for parent drop-off.
Shuttles between the ninth-grade campus and the main campus will run at the
beginning of 8th period and after school only on Tuesday, April 5th due to testing at the ninth
grade campus and Thursday, April 7th due to testing at the main campus.
Students are encouraged to get a good night’s rest the night before and eat a healthy breakfast before the exam.
Smart Phone/Watches Testing Policy – Students will be asked to power down their cell phones
and smartwatches and stow them in their backpacks for the duration of the test. If they do not
have a backpack, they will be asked to turn in their cell phone and smartwatches to the test
administrator.
Ninth Grade Campus EOC English 1 Bell Schedule for Tuesday, April 5, 2022
- EOC English I Test Block 7:20-12:00
- Lunch 12:30-1:03
- Eighth Period 1:10-2:35* Shuttles will run 8th and after school
Lunch on Tuesday, April 5, EOC English 1 Testing Day - Due to the length of the EOC English
1 Exam, all students will eat lunch during the same time at an assigned location. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch. The cafeteria will have a sack lunch that consists of turkey ham with cheese sandwich, baby carrots, fruit cup, choice of milk, and mayo/ mustard. Ala carte items of water and chips will be offered for purchase. Students will need to bring their own lunch or obtain the designated cafeteria sack lunch on April 5th.
Our teachers have been working with your students preparing all year to take the STAAR EOC exams. All STAAR EOC exams at the high school level are required for graduation. Last summer the Texas legislature passed HB4545. HB 4545 establishes new requirements for accelerated instruction including 30 hours of tutoring for students who do not pass (this includes those that do not take) the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®). If you have questions about EOCs, graduation, or HB4545 requirements please contact your student’s counselor.

CLINIC NOTES:
If your student has received any vaccines this school year, including their COVID-19 vaccines or booster, feel free to send a copy or screenshot to the clinic at school so that we can have it on file. You can also email it to aransley@conroeisd.net for the Senior Campus, or jffletcher@conroeisd.net for the Ninth Grade Campus.
If you have a graduating senior, please be sure to request a copy of their vaccine record to be picked up by your student or emailed to you before the end of the school year. We will not be able to fulfill requests made during the summer. Most colleges and universities require an additional dose of the Meningitis (MCV4) vaccine that is received on or after the 16th birthday, and you may want to also discuss the Meningitis B vaccine with your doctor. That is a newer vaccine that is available to children ages 16-18, and it protects against an additional strain of the meningococcal virus.
District COVID-19 guidelines were revised again on February 22nd, as the local cases continue to decline. They include information on what to do if your student tests positive, has symptoms of COVID-19, or has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive. For the most up to date information, please refer to the Roadmap to Remaining Open on the Conroe ISD website: https://www.conroeisd.net/roadmap-to-reopening/
Thank you for all that you do in supporting our efforts to keep our students healthy and in school!
