PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello New Tech Families,
As the seasons begin to change and our first quarter is ending, I find myself reflecting on the tenacity and perseverance of our students and staff. I am proud of how our New Tech students have adjusted to life back at school and the willingness of our staff to address their social and emotional needs. I recognize it is not easy to jump back into school, homework, and hectic schedules--along with the basic pressures of just being a teenager these days! Our school climate has been positive, strong, and supportive. Students and staff continue to demonstrate a sense of calm as we navigate many challenging situations.
Thank you to all the parents that support our school and students to work toward the common goal of excellence! October brings several items of importance, including the end of first quarter on October 8th, the district's Hispanic Heritage Celebration on October 7th, and the District Assessment Day on October 13, 2021. Again, I look forward to creating more great days for our students and staff!
In partnership,
Bonnie Felske
UNSAFE TIK TOK CHALLENGE
We wanted to make you aware that users on the social media platform Tik Tok have been creating monthly harmful and unsafe ‘challenges’ for children and teens across the country. Currently, an October ‘challenge’ encourages students to slap a teacher and then run away. Users are asked to post their experience or video on Tik Tok. While this behavior has not occurred at New Tech, we do want parents to be aware. We encourage parents to talk with their children about being watchful of any behaviors which would result in harm to anyone or property. If a student witnesses any harming behaviors it should be reported to our Principal or Assistant Principal immediately. For information about reporting incidents anonymously, please visit Anonymous Alerts through our school site.
Students and their families should know that if students participate in this type of behavior, students will receive school consequences for their actions and staff have the right to file a report with the Police Department.
While we are all aware of the positive and negative effects that social media can have on our young student’s lives, this can be an opportunity for families to discuss the importance of Internet safety, physical safety, and mental health. Now, more than ever, it is essential for our students to utilize the online world with caution and knowledge. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Fall Athlete Success
Athletes are peaking at the right time as we enter the IHSA playoffs in many sports. Congratulations to ZBTHS Junior Kirby Torola who advanced to the sectional round in golf with a 4 over par, 76 in the regional to place 7th overall. Congratulations to junior Girls Cross Country runner, Audrey Luell, who ran 18:16 recently. This is now #1 on our home course record board. Just behind her was another junior, Riley Franz who finished in 19:06 which places her now #3 on our home course record board.
Guest Limitations For Fall Athletic Contests
ZBTHS D126 will be limiting guests for fall athletics the rest of this season. Due to on-going COVID-19 concerns, limited parking due to pending construction, and staffing needs the administration decided to limit crowds at both indoor and outdoor sporting events. The District is taking steps to ensure parents of participants will be able to get access to tickets.
We would like to thank everyone in advanced for the support and look forward to a great season. Should you have questions or recommendations please contact Mr. Jack Niemi, Athletic Director.
Wednesday, October 13th
